1980 Aladin Lunch Box Catalog
The name Aladin and lunch pails are synonymous. For generations, many of us received these wonderful licensed metal containers to bring to school, back when kids could bring peanut butter sandwichs to school that is.. This 1980 Catalog features a great mix of popular characters, many like Barbie and Superman are still being put on […]
1969 Toys R Us Flier
Here’s another wonderful Toy Newspaper Circular from the good people at Toys R Us, this time it’s from this weekend 41 years ago (ok I timed that part). A lot of people don’t know that Toys R Us was around in the 1960s but it’s hard to deny this kind of evidence. It’s a cool […]
1977 Mattel Welcome Back Kotter Catalog
The popularity of the sitcom “Welcome Back Kotter” inspired all kinds of merchandising including these 9″ figures from Mattel, the line was a bit of a flop, and carded figures can still be affordably priced today (especially the Horshak!) The Sweathogs classroom playset included a record of catchphrases from the show, which I […]
Mattel 1977 Pulsar The Ultimate Man of Adventure Catalog
According to Mattel, Pulsar was the “Ultimate Man of Adventure”. I still want to know what his back story is, is he some sort of cyborg? a Mutant? None of this mattered as a kid, I really wanted him! The Pulsar Life Systems Center Playset is actually quite hard to find.
Mattel 1977 Space:1999 Catalog
The Eagle One Ship and Moonbase Alpha Playset were holdovers from the 1976 Mattel Space:1999 Offering Space 1999 is heavily featured in the premiere issue of our new magazine “Toy-Ventures” available now! The Zython alien figure was added to the line this year, however he wasn’t an […]
1977 Mattel Shogun Warriors Catalog
1977 was the initial release year for the Mattel Shogun Warriors figures, unknown to us in North America these figures were called “Jumbo Machinders” in Japan and the characters were actually well-known cartoon characters. We’d get an inkling of this later when “Force Five” appeared in syndication. Dragun would round out the first […]
Azrak Hamway International Catalog from 1978
As one of the premiere rack toy manufacturers of the 1970s, Azrak Hamway International (most commonly referred to as AHI by collectors) were still going strong with low cost toys based on the hottest licenses from comic books, TV, and film. Thanks to a stranglehold from Kenner, AHI offered no Star Wars product in 1978, […]
Marvel Water Pistols
I expect to see Spider-Man and Cap, bonus points for Sgt Fury despite it being a German pistol but Kid Colt Outlaw? That has to be one of his only pieces of merchandise ever. I don’t remember him packing a Saturday night special but whatevs… Get the expanded digital edition of Rack Toys here.
Dungeon Adventure Game!
While I never dug D&D, I probably would have enjoyed this board game version from TSR. I love the wholesome 80s looking family up there, considering TSR was beleaguered with negative press during this period, it’s almost ironic…. Get the expanded digital edition of Rack Toys here.
