The Super Steins!

No it’s not the story of a Jewish family given strange powers after an accidental dose of Gamma radiation (well, not until I sell that screenplay) but just a series of cool super hero merch from the mid seventies boom: Ah the man of steel, I need this for better beer consumption. Classic Adams Batman, […]

1982 Ideal UK Catalog

Even though the company’s name is “Ideal” you won’t find a great amount of Ideal toys in this catalog, that’s this is the UK branch of the company which also distributed toys for US based companies with no UK offices. That means this catalog is loaded with some of the best toys 1980 has to offer […]

Superheroic School Supplies

One of my sideline obsessions (because I need more) are these mid seventies to early eighties superhero school supplies by Alco. I proudly had the Batman from this set on my desk as a kid and I remember our local stationary store (remember those?) had a display of these in the window. This Shazam is […]

Comic Hero Kites

This is a new one to me, these Comic Hero kites from Remco were made in 1971, which was an odd year to be making Superhero merchandise seeing it was pretty close to the late 60s explosion. There are some pretty interesting things to notice about this line, first is the absence of Aquaman ( […]

Scene from the new Green Lantern Movie

Ok, apologies for the misleading title but wouldn’t the new Green Lantern movie be so much better if it had a scene where Ryan Reynolds leads the entire Justice League to victory via water skis? Hunh? Many, many thanks to Matt S for these fab pictures, more to come. And if you have anything to […]

1974 HG Toys Summer Catalog

Seasonal Toy Catalogs are a big part of the toy industry, with summer rearing it’s head it’s time to look at all the hot outdoor stuff available from HG Toys in 1974. Nothing cooler than outdoor fun when it’s combined with TV favourites The Superfriends, Fat Albert and Looney Tunes either. Click on the images […]

Trapped in the Magic Lasso

Third in our series of wonderful contributions to the site from Dan, this time we see Wonder Woman capturing the penguin. This is like a live action version of one of my favourite Mego toys: And if you have anything to add, I’d be your friend for life.

Paint By Numbers Coolness

While a paint by numbers kit alone isn’t that exciting to kids, Hasbro amped up the cool with the licensing. I’d have trouble deciding today what to choose let alone as a five year old. I’d probably go with Star Trek but the idea of painting Aquaman is really tempting….

The Boy Wonder’s Bedroom

The red phone is of course, a direct link to Commissioner Gordon. I really believe that killer graphics like these bed sheets are the thing that brainwashed me into the deranged superhero junky i remain today. Damn you Licensing Corporation of America! Frightenstein Contest Winner! Congrats to James Powell for winning our “Save Frightenstein” contest […]

More Superheroes at Sea World

I got a nice email from Tony who works for the Florida memory department about the website he works on called Florida Memory which catalogs photos from the state of Florida. I have a lot of fond childhood memories of visiting Florida so I’ve accrued a few hours surfing through this incredible site. Here are […]
