The first 48

This is where i tapped out as a kid, 48 action figures was too much to “Collect ’em all” and I remember taking a hard line with Cloud Car pilot (I already had a Bespin guard). I may have been the exception but I really got into Black Hole and Star Trek TMP figures at […]

Pod Stallions 53: The Black Hole

For our 53rd show, we are joined once again by former Famous Monsters editor and current host of “It Came From Blog” Mr David Weiner (@TikiAmbassador) for a rousing two hour discussion on Walt Disney’s 1979 Science Fiction opus “The Black Hole”. The conversation talks about the film itself, the it’s origins and somewhat discordant tone, […]

Cardboard and Vinyl charm

Can’t say I’m a huge fan of either S.W.A.T or Emergency! but those vinyl & cardboard playsets are awesome and I totally want them. That old timey computer….sigh…. LJN TV Super Stars Catalog

Palomino Dreaming

If I could wish one not produced toy into existence, it would likely be the Mego Palomino play set pictured here. I had a strong affection for the Black Hole as a kid and it continues to this day. More on the Mego Black Hole line here.

The shop window of Mego Dreams…..

I debated whether to put this here or on the Mego Museum but considering it’s a vintage photo of a toy store in Hong Kong (and let’s face it, this site has an obsession with such things). This display of Mego Superhero items and Micronauts is my happy place, I drove my mother crazy looking […]

Dolls: Big Figures from Fantasy!

I recently came across this wonderful article about action figures circa 1977, it mentions Micronauts, Pulsar, Metal Man, Electroman, Stretch Monster, Shogun Warriors and their impact on the toy market place. It features interviews with not only toy buyers but toy makers from Hasbro, Mego, Zee Toys and Mattel. Seeing as these are things that […]

Mego invades the UK

This picture, from the 1977 Palitoy Bradgate Catalog is so much like my childhood (and adult dreams) it’s scary. I love a world where the Star Trek crew can mingle with the Fantastic Four and take on Doctor Zaius. You can see the whole thing at the Mego Museum.

Pod Stallions 50: Listener Request Show

For our 50th show we put it to you, our wonderful audience and boy did you have some good ideas, seriously you gave us a year’s worth of topics, Jason and I don’t have to do any thinking in 2017 and we thank you because we hate thinking. But for this show we chose these […]

Superheroes and Sci-Fi

One section of any wish book that I love is the “other” action figure pages in the era of Star Wars. There is a lot of great stuff on this page! While my time with the Mego Superheroes decreased sharply in 1979, I still viewed them like old friends. I still kinda do….

Black Hole 1980

Seeing as it’s December, I thought I’d showcase some of my favourite Christmas Catalog images of all time starting with this one. I remember exactly where I was when I first laid eyes on this, riding in the back seat of my father’s gigantic car to go visit Vince, his barber. It blew my mind […]
