Plaid Stallions 18th Birthday Contest
It’s Plaid Stallions’ birthday, and now I can ship it off to college or the army I guess.
Starting this site on a lazy Saturday while my baby daughter napped was more important than I’d ever realized. I had no idea that when I started posting old catalogue photos online. Starting Plaid Stallions would open such an incredible door that would have me make new friends, create podcasts, go back to college, write books and magazines, and even make action figures based on crazy concepts.
None of this would have happened if I had just decided to watch TV, so it ranks as one of the better decisions I’ve ever made.
Initially, I was going to give PS “Five years tops,” but I just kept going thanks to all the positive people I encountered on this journey.
That support and kindness kept me going, and I always found it here during good times and bad; this has been an amazing ride.
So I would love to give out presents on our birthday because I already got mine from you, and so on with the contest!
RUNNER UP PRIZE:
Ten participants will receive an Infl8able Monster in its limited edition packaging. These are the same figures that come with issue 12 of Toy-Ventures Magazine, but in a special “Rack Toy” package. We’re only making 150 of these with a custom header card by the amazing Peter Carsillo; these will be sold on the site and at shows soon, but you can get one absolutely free.
SECOND PRIZE:
One lucky person will get a complete set of Lincoln Monsters collector pins and an Infl8able Monster.

Billy Barty
Bob Denver
Bill Bixby
Congratulations! Andy Warhol is my pick.
I enjoyed Jerry Van Dyke on the Love Boat!
I never really watched the Love Boat, but I understand Don Adams guest starred. I always loved Get Smart, so I choose him!
Fave guest: Charo
Vincent Price for me
Ron Palillo. He was supposed to be a ladies man but boy did he go deep and dark with that. It was almost horror movie creepy
Happy Birthday! I loved it when Andy Warhol was on the Loveboat 🙂
maudeboyer@gmail.com
Happy Birthday! I loved it when Andy Warhol was on the Loveboat 🙂
maudeboyer@gmail.com
Paul Williams. He found love!! D_is_neo@hotmail.com
Carolyn Jones. Now I have the title theme stuck in my head.
John Ritter
John Astin!
Always Vincent Price. Or Reb Brown, he turned 76 (!) yesterday!
Gary Burghoff! <3
Congrats on the milestone Brian! Your content is such a positive ray of light in the sea of negativity that is social media and YouTube.
John Ritter has to be my favourite guest. It seemed like an event when he showed up. Not to mention how excited my dad would be when he knew John was going to be on the show.
Cheers! Here’s to fifteen more!
My favorite Love Boat guest star has to be Bill Bixby (with his wife Brenda Benet – both in wheelchairs)
Dave Anderson
Long Anderson was my favorite Love Boat guest star
Congrats on the anniversary!
Vincent Price is my favorite guest star.
My fave guest star episode was when Julie Newmar appeared and “trapped” Don Knotts into a relationship because she wanted someone to be her child’s father. She was a childhood crush on Batman. Teenaged me loved her on the love boat. Lol
Bill Bixby or Jim Backus
It has to be Charo
My favourite was MacKenzie Phillips. She played Gopher’s college buddy who changed into a woman
Ernest Borgnine!
Congrats, Brian!
Cab Calloway
So many choices! Just watched the episode where the Captain visits his ex and brings their daughter back on board with him. Anyhow, how about s1e1 Meredith Baxter!
Charo caused stirrings in my utility belt when she guested on Love Boat
Hell yes! Congrats on the longevity!
Love boat? Arte Johnson!!!
My favourite Love Boat guest was Florence Henderson because she always seemed to be aboard the ship and no one deserved a vacation more than America’s Mom!
Paul Williams. Not only did he come up with the lyrics to the theme song, but he faced the ages old problem of having to marry someone by the end of the episode/cruise or lose inheriting the family fortune as spelled out in the terms of the will. How many times has this happened to someone you know if not yourself? How many fortunes have been lost by those without access to the Love Boat’s magic? Williams also shuffles around like a beheaded chicken, and I like to think this is a hold over from his experience on the Apes film. He also sports the trademark Paul Williams eyeglasses, always a plus. Thank you for all you do and continued success.
How can you even choose one? Literally you had pop culture icons popping up from A-Team (Dirk Benedict), Hulk (Bill Bixby), Dukes of Hazzard (Catherine Bach), Halloween (Jamie Lee Curtis), Exorcist (Linda Blair) & more. Didn’t appreciate just how significant the guest list was till I was an adult.
Did I blink and miss Little Richard as a guest on Love Boat?? If he wasn’t a guest, then he should have been…
WOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!
For obvious reasons, Adam West. And congrats!
Roddy McDowall as the devil!!!
Vincent Price. How can you not love anything that has Vincent Price in? He makes every movie or TV show he is in so much better.
Congrats on the 18th anniversary!
Favorite Love Boat guest star? Robbie the Robot, with Vincent Price a close second.
Andy Warhol!
Happy 18th Birthday
Heres to Plaid Stallions reaching a ripe old age
Hands down favourite love boat guest is Vincent Price although to be honest he’s my favourite guest on anything
That’s easy. Bill Bixby! He was my hero I was a wee one!
First, CONGRATULATIONS!!! What an awesome thing!!!
Second, I loved Leslie Nielson on the Love Boat. One of my favorite episodes AND actors. I love that he carried a fart noise maker to every interview he did.
Congratulations on your 18th anniversary! Todd Bridges for the win.
Favourite Love Boat guest: Rich Little
Congratulations and Happy Birthday!
Congrats sir!
Favorite guest star – I would say Charlie’s Angels, in the cross-over at established the Spelling-Verse, but that was technically some Love Boaters guesting on the Angel’s show. So I’ll go Village People!
The Village People! Who brought a horse to enter into the Acapulco Steeplechase!!
Erin Gray!!!! I had the hots for her so bad when I was a kid. I had to look up her character, because I couldn’t remember, but she played Maggie Cook. Sooooo fine.
We watched this every week as a family, and as a kid it held some humor for me, but it didn’t hit the nerd button of my soul, until… Vincent Price.
Happy Birthday! If this was 1982 when I turned 18, Pod Stallions would be old enough to have a beer!
As for favorite Love Boat guests, the kneejerk answer is Charo, followed by any former Brady, or Charlie’s Angel.
But I have to go with crazy John Astin, who takes the Captain, Doc, Julie, Gopher, Barbi Benton, and Mrs. Roper hostage on an island! In a hurricane!!
Vincent Price, THE AMAZING ALONZO. Obviously.
Deacon Dark. Charo was on ten times. The Deacon only needed one.
Congratulations on being one of the reasons I love the Internet!
Charo! Because coochie coochie!
Charo was my favorite guest on the Loveeeee Boat
Congrats on being 18!! You can vote now and be drafted. Well in the U.S. at least but you are Canadian so you might get drafted to be in the Mounties I think? my American ignorance and arrogance is shining through. Congrats on all the entertainment you’ve provided us through the years.
I have really enjoyed Plaid Stallions in all of its incarnations over the years! My favorite “Love Boat” costars are Janet Leigh and Jamie Lee Curtis. Thanks for the memories! – Rod
Happy Happy 18! Also not fair, Sonny is also my favorite. Friends of ours are going on an actual Love Boat cruise, I’ve bought a Mego Isaac to have Mr Lange sign it.
Congrats on 18 Years! paultheodore@comcast.net
Definitely Vincent Price was my favorite Love Boat guest star, but also Roddy McDowall among others, and I won’t mention how many female guests I had crushes on.
Gotta be Bob Denver. What a different boating experience for him.
Dick Butkus.
Don’t forget the Loni Anderson 2 parter that started on Love Boat but ended on Fantasy Island!
Susan Anton
Eric Estrada I’m mean heck IT’S PONCH Loved me some C. H. I. P. s and the love boat WHOOP WHOOP BOOOOOOOOOM
Cab Calloway remains one of the coolest people to ever walk the planet. He’s the link between Max Fleischer and The Beatles and The Blues Brothers, and so much other coolness.
I can’t choose between the hilarious Sherman Helmsley, the ever classy Gene Kelly, or the incomparable Paul Williams.
Great comments ! I’ll go with Tom Hanks and Andy Warhol who appeared as spies on the Love Boat.
My fave guest would have to be Roddy McDowall!
Paul Williams as Nelson, simply everyshow or Movie where Paul appears Is a must see for me, Is Like so seventies Magic persons Like linda thorson, Alice Cooper and Kiss band
Happy 18th birthday Voy!
Hands down. It has be Paul williams! Simply because he’s a crazy talented singer-songwriter, and actor. But as a kid in the seventies I didn’t realize he was that talented. I just remember him being in everything in the 70s. Lol
Riddle me this, who is my favorite Love Boat guest star? Why, John Astin of course!
Congrats, Brian! You deserve all the good things that are coming to you. I have greatly appreciated all of the nostalgic goodness that Plaid Stallions has brought to the world. Please keep it comin’!
Love Boat guest: Charo
My favourite Love Boat Guest was Vincent Price.
OMG! This is an awesome contest! My favorite Love Boat guest was Charro! As a kid going through puberty she was my
Andy Warhol!
https://youtu.be/24PziQkZ-n0?si=7KRF4kJlFwkZ_WGW&t=421
Long time fan! Love all the stuff you scan, create and the pod too! My fave love boat guest is Charro for sure or all time great Mrs. C aka Marion Ross! Let’s hear it for 18 more years!
My favorite guest on Love Boat was Dian Parkinson.
Happy Birthday to a wonderful site! Your sense of humor and nostalgia keep me coming back! I think I will go with Ethel Merman guest starring as Gopher’s mother. One of the unusual bits of Canon in the show through a few seasons.
Nothing sums up cheesy 70s TV quite like Sonny Bono as Deacon Dark although The Village People appearing on the Love Boat is a close second. Honorable mention to Robby The Robot who is listed as “Bix” in the credits.
Congratulations on the 18th Anniversary!
My favorite Love Boat guest was Vincent Price.
Vincent price
Congrats! Long time reader of the site.
The best Love Boat guest is Dana Plato. Swoon. My eight year old self had the biggest crush
Andy Warhol!
I didn’t watch The Love Boat but I love your channel (great positive energy). Congratulations!
Vincent Price (he elevates everything).
It is Charo!
Congratulations! It’s very hard to pick one but I guess Phil Silvers.
Congratulations on 18 great years, Brian! I’m proud to have been been a Stallion for the last few years. Thanks for creating this wonderful community.
I really want to say Don Adams, Gordon Jump, Loni Anderson, and others, for what I know them from, but I have to go with Vincent Price in his spooky Hallowe’en episode!
Gotta go with Patrick Wayne! Fresh off of playing Sinbad and cruising with the Pacific Princess crew as an undercover FBI agent hunting the mob!
If I haven’t been here the whole 18 years, its been damn close. Love all you do Brian.
Catherine Bach! My young mind was blown to see my sweet Daisy on the boat.
Dirk Benedict .
I’ve always loved the episode with Ernest Borgnine as Dominic. I absolutely adore Ernest. He always came across as so sincere and genuine (and he’s in one of my all time favorite flicks, Bad Day at Black Rock). A real class act. 2 years later he’d go on to be in one of my favorite things ever to exist, Airwolf. Congratulations on Plaid Stallions, Brian. I came across your youtube channel quite by accident, and I’m absolutely glad I did. I now own my very own Brick Mantooth Ultimate Man of the 70’s figure and I look forward to every video and live stream you produce. Here’s to 18 more years!
Congratulations on your continued success, Brian.
As for my favorite Love Boat guest:
The one and only DEBBIE ALLEN!
Wow! 18! I can’t remember how long ago I found this site, but I love it. My fav has got to be Vincent Price. He should have guest starred on every show.
Erin Gray!!!!
My favorite Love Boat guest is Charro, of course!
Hulk hogan
Charo!
Don Knotts. Loved seeing him in just about anything and he had a whimsical bit of fun on the ship. Could have seen an alternate world where he was a rival captain on a more beleaguered boat.
Congrats! I subscribed to this channel last year and it’s now of my all time favorite toy related channels (and Toy Polloi). I also got both of the books (regular bathroom reading material for me). They’re both wonderful.
For Love Boat I’d pick Betty White, just cuz I love Betty.
It’s very hard, as there were so many great guest stars. But I will go with Charo, for her 9 guest appearances across all seasons as April Lopez (and a one-shot other than April). She wasn’t considered a regular.
A close second is Marion Ross (best known to us 70s/80s kids as Mrs. Cunningham from Happy Days), who put in 6 guest appearances in five episodes, then 8 appearances in the last two seasons as Emily, a love interest for, then the wife of, the Captain. She was still considered a guest star, appearing in that portion of the opening credits in both the last regular season with 4 appearances or in the final season composed of specials with four more appearances.
Ironically, both April and Emily made their last appearances in the same episode.
Barbi Benton…..just typing her name is driving me crazy!!
Vincent Price of course! “ My prize ascot just flew overboard. Put Jodi in a dinghy and have him row around it until we return!”
Charro. I always loved Charro!
Paul Williams!
Joyce Dewitt as a guest star
Although I had a pretty big crush on Jill Whelan
I feel this is a trap wherein I have to choose the better Landers Sister, and no one wins, but if I have to narrow it down, I’ll choose Judy simply because of her link to Waylon Flowers and Madame.
Paul Williams, baby!
Vincent Price
Vincent Price as the Amazing Alonzo
Congratulations!
Plaid Stallions has been a pleasure and I’m glad it’s been such a success for you!
As for the Love Boat, I have to pick someone with ties to the success of P. S.- Mr. Randolph Mantooth!
Dorothy Stratton!
Charles Nelson Reilly!
Adult me would say Charles Nelson Riley but young me would pick Nicholas Hammond!
i see that others have chosen my answer
and to give them a fair chance
i will refrain from answering
and stay in the shadows as others win.
congrats to the winners and to your anniversary
My favorite guest star is definitely Jamie Lee Curtis. I also love her for her roles in Halloween.
Dirk Benedict: no matter if he was a colonial pilot or a soldier of fortune, the guy added class wherever he appeared.
Happy Birthday! Plaid Stallions is a year away from being able to buy beer.
Favourite Love Boat guest has to be Don Knots. He woos Julie Newmar in his episode. Not too shabby.
Barbi Benton , I was a teen.
Congrats on 18 years!
Fave Love Boat guest? Vincent Price.
Congrats Brian. 18 years eh? Keep on keeping on dude! I’m going for Quatermass himself, John Mills.
Happy 18th Birthday!!! Thanks for everything you’ve done and continue to do.
Adrienne Barbeau. Young crushes are very memorable.
Marion Ross. She deserves happiness 🙂
Congrats and cheers to 18 more years of fun! Torn between Vincent Price or Charles Nelson Reilly, I will break the tie and choose Lisa Whelchel, my first childhood crush. Brian, thank you so much for all of the laughs, vintage toy nostalgia, and old catalog memories!
Congratulations to you and many more! My favorite guest on the LOVE boat was Rich little
Congratulations on 18 years of Plaidstallions! My favorite Love Boat guest was Annette Funicello.

Well that would Andy Warhol of course. I have a photo of Andy and Capt. Stubing as my phone Screen saver.
jwmadman05@yahoo.com
Vincent Price! And Robby the Robot, whom until this, I never knew guest starred! Now I gotta find the episode! TAke care and Happy Birthay!
Lola Falana /Mara Carroll
Charo,coochie,coochie.She’s actually a great guitarist.
Vincent Price! No question!
Tom Bosley & Marion Ross!
Sit on it, Howie!
Gotta go with Robby the Robot! Yes, he was on the show. He played Bix. Did he find love? Probably not…
My favorite guest was Bill Bixby in season 1 episode 4 “A Message for Maureen.” Because recognizing him from the Incredible Hulk it was nice to see him on the Love Boat. I also expected to see the Hulk! Lol! I was a little kid and didn’t know any better! Everything was about superheroes!
Congratulations!
So many iconic guests on the Love Boat, but if I had to choose one I would pick Lee Majors, I just love the Six Million Dollar Man and the Fall Guy!
Kristie Alley was my favorite guess star. I had a big crush on her.
Congrats on your 18th birthday Plaid!
Congrats and cheers for 18 years of fun! Torn between Vincent Price and Charles Nelson Reilly, I’ll break the tie and pick Lisa Whelchel, my first childhood crush. Brian, thank you so much for all of the laughs, vintage toys, and old catalog nostalgia!
Congratulations!!!
Linda Blair
Betty White!!!
Congrats on the anniversary and longevity!! Vincent Price was my favorite guest on the Love Boat, although Charo was always a fun one to watch.
As a kid, it was easy to recognize the Happy Days crew, so I’ll say Tom Bosley.
Congratulations on your anniversary. My favorite guest on Love Boat was Vincent Price. It was a great episode with a veteran actor.
Carol Channing
I love Suzanne Somers but Shirley the Seal deserves the crown! Congratulations on eighteen years.
Im going with Ernest Borgnine. (SHE WAS EVERYTHING I LOVED AND YOU KÌLLED HER !!! ) Oh wait wrong boat. LoL..
Ernest Borgnine! I kept hoping for a sequel to The Poseidon Adventure might happen to the Love Boat. haha
Congrats, Brian!
My favorite guest is from a season 1 episode, and it’s Milton Berle as Cyril Wolfe, the husband who can’t stop pulling pranks.
Happy 18th Birthday Pilaidstallions.

Congrats on your anniversary!
There’s tons of great cameos, guest stars, and actors still getting their start in the biz.
One of my favorites is Adrienne Barbeau in a two-parter. As a fan of Escape from New York, I’d like to pretend her journey to the prison island of Manhattan somehow entailed the Love Boat.
Bill Bixby
Congrats on being 18!
And John Amos, who’s always fantastic in everything he does
Jamie Lee Curtis What a fun episode that one was.
horrortoycollector@gmail.com
Favorite Love Boat guest was Charo!
Baby Tom Hanks in season 4
My favorite love boat guest would have been the lovely Adrienne Barbeau. Just can’t beat her personality and looks.
Thanks for all the years of hard work and congratulations on the 18th birthday!
Congrats Brian!! Thanks for all the amazing work over the years! I gotta go with the weird and wonderful Andy Warhol
Donna Pescow!
Andy Warhol was my fave! Happy 18th birthday!
Charo. How can anybody not like Charo???
Another one for Vincent Price. Everything is better with Vincent Price.
Peter Lawford! Thrown out of The Rat Pack for trying to be a hippie, to guesting on The Love Boat!
Any opportunity to vote for Michael J Fox is alright by me. So I guess that’s my vote. Thanks Brian!
You can’t never go wrong with good old David Hasselhoff.
Don Adams
Just cause it was literally the first time I’d seen him in anything other than Get Smart, and with Bernie Kopell in cast, it was just the right level of wonder and surrealness.
It has to be Vincent Price.
But Charro and Jamie Lee Curtis are close seconds.
It has to be Vincent Price.
But Charro and Jamie Lee Curtis are close seconds.
Lots of choices, single guest-Adam West, group guest Harlem Globetrotters (with the Village People a close second).
Don knotts was a great.
For some reason I feel like I should answer Rudolph Mantooth…
But for me it’s either Jaclyn Smith for the crush factor, or Gene Kelly because I have a soft spot for those old musical actors. Congrats on PS turning legal!
Charo! Happy Birthday PS!
Congratulations on the 18th. My favourite is Vincent Price
Erin Gray
Damn no w I gotta go with Jackie earl Haley junior as he was Kelly leek with the bears , ride in a first bike through a mutant cockroach infested. Mall with Jean Michael Vincent in damnation alley ,lived in the planet of the apes in the t.v. show ,rossrch on the watchmen ,Freddy Krueger ……. Hello…
Congrats on another year of awesome content!
Since you stole my first thought and made me start humming Smash it in my head, I went to my perennially favorite C-lister, which led me to my answer! I searched my file of very important memories to recall Charles Nelson Reilly’s guest. Doing so, however, led me to my favorite guest- Ted Knight as Gunner Norqvist, the Jean LaFoot to Stubing’s Capt’n Crunch. Even before Caddyshack, Knight was nailing the nautical jerk!
OK, now that I’ve given the right answer, GIMME!
Ernie Anderson, while technically not a guest star, he did voice-over work for ABC TV network during the 1970s and 1980s. “coming up on the Love boat”.
Before that, he was Ghoulardi (from Cleveland). You gotta check him out!
KNIF!
I’d have to say Ron Ely who played multiple characters, Ted Cole, Jim, Steve Swaggart, and Darryl Brewster. Anyone that can play Doc Savage and Tarzan and multiple roles on Love Boat deserves major props!!
HAPPIEST 18TH AND MANY SO MANY MORE!!!
I’m gonna have to say, Jamie Lee Curtis. Even in a non scary part in a t.v. show or movie WE ALL KNOW there’s that spooky aura surrounding her lololol.
JAMIE LEE CURTIS ALL THE WAY
M@
Vincent Price.Happy Anniversary.
charo
, she was on many times
Roddy McDowall. Although some other guest spots were more memorable, he’s my favourite actor of all time, so, yeah.
Adrienne Barbeau
Cheryl Ladd
Sonny Bono!
Vincent Price
Congrats! Love your content! Hope there are many many more years to come!
Charo, who sang and danced to her own version of the Love Boat theme song.
Sonny Bono
When I was young, I woulda said Scott Baio.
Yes, I can tell that’s a popular choice. 😉
Thank you for all of the amazing content. Live appearances of super heroes was great to see.
Darren McGavin guest starring on any show is a slam dunk!
Ahhh Dody Goodman! She’s the one!
Charo!!!
She was always over the top. Her musical numbers were always a highlight.
Cootchie! Cootchie!
Alex-Hale……the skipper off gilligens island see somebody chose Bob-Denver or gilligen
