Lincoln International Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera sometimes shares the same outfit as Count Dracula but to my knowledge, there is no “Claw Hand” variations on this character. The head sculpt is very close to the Lon Chaney Sr portrayal of the Phantom.

It is now largely believed that the Phantom of the Opera as part of the second wave of Lincoln International Monsters and added to the line in 1976 along with The Hunchback of Notre Dame figure.

Lincoln International solid box Phantom of the Opera is one of the harder-to-find packages in the series, although most of the solid boxes are elusive.

Lincoln International Phantom of the Opera B Card

Above is a “B” card or sometimes referred to as “UK Card” Phantom of the Opera, the ragged sleeves and jacket are one of the bigger indicators it represents a later product time.

The card back is an obvious copy of the US cards and the figure is a “B” style variant as mentioned in Toy-Ventures magazine issue 3.

Above is an “A” version or as some call it the “US Version” which is inaccurate as this version was also available in the United Kingdom as well.

Due to the fact that the Phantom of the Opera was later in the series, there are no variations or running changes reported to the A versions and essentially there are only two styles of the figure, the A and the B.

B variant Lincoln International Phantom of the Opera

Above is a “B” version or as some call it the “UK Version” as they are mainly found in the United Kingdom [See our article on the big find].

The obvious differences are the lack of ruffles on the shirt, a lighter complexion for the figure’s face, and short, ragged sleeves.

The history is sketchy but sometime after Lincoln produced the Monsters, Tomland reused the head designs for a series of four action figures as well as some mini monster figures. The color schemes had changed but the figures kept that same kooky style they always had.

Above is the Tomland Mini Monsters Phantom, they did not produce an 8 inch counterpart.
