1975 Mattel Hot Wheels Catalog

Mattel launched the HotWheels brand in 1968 and the free wheeling 1:64 scale muscle cars became a household world by the early 1970s. By 1975, the brand was doing what it does best, creating great looking cars and complicated racing playsets, a formula they still use today. 1975 Hot Wheels Catalog

Camping with Big Red

When I last posted about Spiegel Catalog exclusive “Big Red” I had never heard of him. However, I got a ton of email from you lot saying that you not only had Big Red but that you loved him! So here is Red’s offering from 1975!

Donny and Marie meet Donny and Marie.

This shot from 1977 pictures Donny and Marie inspecting their toy namesakes at a Mattel Expo where they were guests of honour. Other notable displays at this show involved Mattel’s new line of Shogun Warriors, Slime, Pulsar and Welcome Back Kotter toys. Sadly, the article only mentions those and this is the best picture I […]

The Victim Mystery Solved

For years now, it’s been bugging me if this 6 inch fashion doll that has been dubbed “The Victim” and said to be part of the Lincoln Monsters line of toys was a real thing or not. I had heard from people over the years who claimed to have her as a kid or saw […]

Cool Cast

1975 Mattel Heroes in Action Catalog

During a time when many toy companies were shying aware from realistic military toys thanks mostly to the Vietnam conflict, Mattel toys launched Heroes in Action.  Heroes in Action was a very early attempt at the 3 3/4″ figure market made popular by the Fisher Price Adventure people and later Star Wars, it’s crew comprised […]

I’ve got a tough assignment for you

Growing up,  my neighbour Dave had a talking Joe, all it ever said was “I have a tough assignment for you” to the point where Dave came up with his own “tough assignment” and smashed Joe with a hammer.  It made me giggle when I read the ad copy on this page. Last I saw […]

Space Adventure

I haven’t a clue what this early 70s space set is called but honestly who cares, as generic space/army man sets go this one seems to have an above average sense of style.
