Spiderman and His Amazing Friends

Spiderman and His Amazing Friends

Fun addition to the site today, it’s a Marvel comics brochure from 1982 that details their service of providing Superheroes to your next event. Want Spider-man, Destro and ROM: Space Knight to visit your mall? This is the sales kit you’d recieve and it’s pages of fun shots of actors dressed as Marvel Superheroes and some iconic toy characters from the past.
If anyone has childhood pics of a mall visit such as this, I want them! Send them to me and I’ll send you a prize pack.

I wanted to play Destro but I’m too smooth chested….

This may be a Mall costume but I like it better than the recent movie doom.

Sweet Brian! I remember seeing Spider-Man and the Green Goblin battle at Hills in 1980!

They put on quite a show, and Spidey even back flipped onto a clothes rack and stayed there crouched for some time. Totally into character! It left quite the impression on me.

I still have their “autograph” on a 8.5 x 11 poster. It had comic art of Spidey, Goblin, Cap, and a somewhat badly drawn ROM. I can send you a scan if you like.

That is freaking cool! That would have been sweet to see some of these characters!

Spider-man hit a mall in town when I was a kid to promote a Foley’s grand opening, I was a paper carrier then and the newspaper sent out those custom Spider-Man / Hulk comics from Marvel that mentioned the Store, with it on the cover I might add, and since we are in Texas we got a rodeo story. I still have the comic.

I also have an autograph from Darth Vader as he toured the malls with Texas Instruments back in the 70’s, they handed out these 8 1/2 x 11 black and whites that the character would scribble “Vader” across. I’ve been meaning to post this one myself.

Let me know if you want scans of either one!

I’ve always wondered if the Rom suit is in a closet somewhere? I would love to find that.

In the section with the testimonials…I love the comment by The School for Retarded Children. How amazingly and innocently politically incorrect!! Gotta love the early 80’s late 70’s
