Matchbox Fighting Furies: Plaid Stallions Action Figure Archive

Hot on the heels of Big Jim and the Lone Ranger, the Fighting Furies toy line made a big splash in 1974 but is largely forgotten by collectors today.

Created by Marvin Glass and Associates, the line of 8″ Mego scaled figures harkened to swashbuckling days of yore. Lesney/Matchbox eager to expand their offering from diecast cars picked up the line of action figures and sold them worldwide.

While pirates weren’t a big deal in the US at the time, they were in Europe, where they enjoyed a four-year run and expanded into the Western line.

The Matchbox Fighting Furies are one of the 1970s most gorgeous action figure lines and sadly, one of the more underrated.
