Aurora Monsters on Sale

Aurora Monsters on Sale

My love for the Aurora Monster model kits knows no bounds, I’ve bought and re bought them several times over during my life and I’m currently repairing the ones my kids and I did over the years.

I thought it would be fun to go through some old timey ads where they could be purchased with pocket change. Above we see the effect of the media blow back from the Monster Scenes kits, apparently parents groups got offended by the concept of torturing nubile victims, who knew?

$0.77 at Westons for some glow in the dark goodness seems like money well spent in 1973.

But the hands down winner of them all goes to aptly named “Giant Way” who in 1973 was blowing these bad boys out at half a buck. I can see it now…..
OK, it’s recycled photo from the Vintage Toy store archive but it tells a great story…

I owned all of these as a kid. Never had a clue how much they cost back in the days – so seeing that is so amazing. Of course, being a stupid kid, we eventually took all of these out back, and shot at them with out BB guns, but I remember having, painting and displaying them all.

Had the Godzilla, King Kong, and Hunchback kits… especially loved the glowy bits on Godzilla and the hollow sky-scraper he was tromping on.

Eventually they all went the way of the firecracker… the fate of ALL of my model kits.

The best part is, all of these are back in hobby shops again, with new stuff added to the Monster Scenes line.

i wasn't a fan of the glow in the dark feature on my monster models, but I'll agree that Godzilla probably made the best use of it.
for the rest of them i seem to remember turning out the light and seeing more or less a glowing head, left hand, and right foot
