Godzooky PLush (sponsored link) —
In the late 1970s, Knickerbocker produced plush based on the Godzilla cartoon, featuring the big G and Godzooky. I got one of those Godzillas, I still have it, and it lives in my daughter’s room. I never sought to get a Godzooky, but I’ve warmed to him over the years. That is something I’ll never do with “Baby Plas.”
Bootleg Bat-Ray Batmobile from the 1960s (sponsored link) —
I wonder how fast the folks at Tri-Play Toys drew bats on this existing item? The whole thing smacks of “Haste.”
Monster Finger Puppets (sponsored link) —
If there was ever a Gen-X secret handshake, it’s these little dudes. I remember getting them free with toothpaste (!) at Miracle Mart as a kid. I think I know at least two people with a tattoo of these. I should get some.
Universal Studios Baby Frank souvenir – (sponsored link)
Universal Studios created Baby Frank as a cutesy “Scrappy Dooish” Frankenstein (Corey LeChat covered this character extensively in Toy-Ventures Issue 5 if interested in knowing more), and this felt pennant is just one of the items that featured him. There was also a costume made so they had an actor walking around at the parks themselves.
As much as I’m a huge Monster Kid with Frankenstein always being my #1 character, I can’t sanction this buffoonery. Baby Frank leaves me cold for some reason. I do own some merchandise with him on it, but it’s always got his papa with him.
UFO Grendizer Pencil Sharpener (sponsored link) ––
Making boring old school supplies into cool toys is an art form, and whoever made this is a total Davinci. If I had this in grade school, it would have been taken away by the teacher. I was a “Teacher takes his stuff a lot” kind of kid.
