Spider-Man in the UK

Today’s mall appearance comes from the UK where Spider-Man was used on a bus tour to promote the Palitoy Superheroes line (which were repackaged Mego Superheroes). I don’t know about you but this is more Spider-Man than I ever hoped to see….. Send me your mall appearance photos!

Caught in Spidey’s Web

Completing the trifecta of awesome sent in by Scott during “Frogtown Frolics”, at Thompson Park in Colts Neck, NJ. It’s the classic Spider-Man appearance shot, notice that Scott is clutching a Mego Spiderman doll. Scott equates this event as not unlike “The Beatles at Shea Stadium” it’s not hard to see why. Thanks for the great […]

Cool Thing: Popy Spider-Man

I’m currently out of colouring books to review (although expect some great stuff in January) so I thought it was high time to take a look at some of the more interesting toys to cross my path. Our initial entry comes from Japan, land of wonderful playthings and pornography that gives me nightmares. This doll is not […]

Gordy Toys wants you to play with “Hulk Putty”

Another player in the world of Rack Toys was Henry Gordy International, who specialized in somewhat generic impulse items with licensed appearance. Among their staples is my new favourite thing mostly because I’m immature: The “Ball Blaster” would indeed be an effective crime deterrent even Lex Luthor himself would think twice. The primary licenses used here […]

RC Super Heroes

Captain America never gets enough toy love IMO. These RC cars were an uncharacteristicly higher price point item from AHI and while the Spider-Man car was around for a couple of years, I can only find evidence of Cap being offered in 1980 thus far. I’ve never seen a boxed Captain America Car either.

When Heroes Meet

David T sent in this great shot of him and the Six Flags Spider-man, which is the best Spidey I’ve ever seen I might add. Love the cape, I personally used an orange towel, it’s a rag now but I can’t bring myself to throw it away….. Send us your Mall Appearance photos!

The 1977 REMCO Toys Catalog

Remco’s name was purchased in 1974 by Azrak Hamway, a successful manufacturer of rack toys. AHI used the Remco brand to sell a more upscale toy but one that still utilized the many licenses integral to their core business. 1977 saw the introduction of Mickey Mouse to the fold and more Superhero (especially Batman) related […]

Potpourri of Coolness

Just a few random things I’ve forgotten to show off before hand. Firstly, I am elated to announce the DVD release of the Monster Squad television series this June 23rd. Not to be confused with the 1980s movie of the same name, this Monster Squad was a Saturday morning show reminscent of the Adam West […]

Super Spinner of Rack Toys

The stuff dreams are made of, a spinner packed to the gills full of rack toys by Henry Gordy inc. Imagine finding this in some long forgotten hardware store somehere. I’d fill my car with Superman Ball Blasters… I don’t get the Hulk handcuffs though unless he was kinda kinky.
