Shogun Warrior PJs
OMG, these things are so super cool. I miss the days of toy lines with absolutely no back story.

First off, thank you for the incredibly kind response to last week’s entry. It’s extremely comforting to know I was not alone because that would have been pretty terrible. My next tale of nerd-woe jumps me to 1986, I had started drifting away from collecting comic books and jumped into collectibles, specifically sci fi based toys. Actually, it […]
Kidco (a pretty logical name for a toy company) made some pretty unassuming toys during the 1970s, the most interesting items they produced in 1979 are not one but two different lines of Shogun Warrior inspired toys. Sliver Warriors and Space Defenders are the things you find at toy shows or in lots and have […]
Today’s Friday feature puts us in 1978 and the Mattel Shgoun Warriors line is in full swing with new additions such as the king of all monsters Godzilla! Which in terms of additions to teams, is pretty spectacular. It’s a Jumbo Machinder goodtime with the 1978 Mattel Shogun Warriors Catalog. More Shogun Warriors
This is the Mattel booth at a regional toyfair where the newest thing is the Mattel Shogun Warriors Godzilla doll. In the background I can see more Shogun Warriors and the Galactica Logo. Call me a nerd but I really dig on this vintage toy industry insider stuff.
Card #34- Raydeen Shogun Warriors were pretty epic toys and I hope to celebrate each one individually, unlike other things I’ve featured this weekend, I do have a Raydeen. He’s beat to hell but I love him anyway. Mattel Shogun Warriors Catalog Card #35- Ideal Jaws Game Honestly I had like ten minutes to decide […]
A long standing tradition on my birthday as a kid was my Grandmother taking me to the toystore to pick out amy own gift. I honestly don’t remember what I chose every year but I do remember those times when I was able to pour over the aisles of Eaton’s or Pinnochio’s with no pressure […]
Sorry, this is a shill post. Thanks to a good find and the amazing help of my pal Dave, I’m releasing another volume of 1970s toy commercials all transferred from the original 16 mm reels. The majority of these are from 1979 and from Mego, Mattel and Kenner. Stretch Monster Barbie Superstar Traveler (Judy “Dyna Girl” […]
The one overwhelming suggestion I got for trading cards are the Mattel Shogun Warriors, which is pretty easy to do considering how iconic they are. Mazinga is special to me because he was the first vintage toy I bought at a yard sale, bought it from a friend of mine who kind of thought I […]
Department stores used to have proud toy sections, so much so that they were a preferred destination when you had a few bucks to spend. You tagged along when your mom needed to visit the credit department, just so you could possibly swing by toys. One of the biggest back in the day was JC Penney, […]
