As much as I chuckled at this figure as a kid and it was a lot, I love this mailer box “Catalog Version” of the figure complete with a trenchcoat and a bull horn, that’s just good value.

Sears Bug Bunny Radio (affiliate link) —

I’m going to assume this was likely produced by Vanity Fair for Sears but it’s pretty ingenious, thanks to the carrot microphone. What can I say, kids like to be loud and that never changes.

I’ve never understood why any kid needed an executive desk set; even as an executive, I never had one of these. I would have liked a Planet of the Apes one personally….

Plaid Stallions Sweet 16 Contest

It’s Plaid Stallions’ birthday, and it’s now old enough to drive! Starting this site on a lazy Saturday while my daughter napped was more important than I’d ever realized. I had no idea that when I started posting old catalogue photos online. Starting Plaid Stallions would open such an incredible door that would have me make new friends, create podcasts, go back to college, write books and magazines, and even make action figures based on crazy concepts.

None of this would have happened if I had just decided to watch TV, so it ranks as one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

One of the things that made my life better was all the positive people I encountered on this journey.

I couldn’t have done any of this if you folks hadn’t encouraged me so much, so it’s time to give back with a Sweet 16 Contest of polyester proportions!

So, I have assembled a grand prize that is as eclectic and unfocused as my interests are; I present to you the PlaidStallions Prize Pack, which includes:

Remco Batman- 5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

Remco Batman Trik Trak- Remco made some pretty obscure toys, and Trik-Trak is one. Trik-Trak is a road race/obstacle set (battery operated) featuring a Batmobile, and it’s got some gorgeous Batman artwork all through it. Also, that’s the 1966 Batmobile which was the “go-to” in merchandising until Lawyers ruined it for a couple of decades.

Remco Monsterizer- 5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

Remco Monsterizer Another gem from Remco, this time it’s the Universal Monsters brand. The Monsterizer really doesn’t do anything, it just lights up and glows in the dark but it totally looks like a Kenneth Strickfaden built device and that’s good enough for me.

Incredible Hulk Cap Gun- There is no end of stupid 70s Marvel comics merch and behold exhibit A. We all know the Hulk is a crack shot and master assassin. I do give Gordy Toys props for adding that gun into the card artwork, looks so natural.

Bootleg Wonder Woman on a Motorcycle- 5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

Knock Off Wonder Woman on a Motorcycle– Look out Jon and Ponch, there’s a new sheriff in town! I can’t tell you how much I love this thing, it’s just so silly. The only way I could love it more is if she was wearing the motorcycle suit that confirmed my heterosexuality in 1979.

EBAY LINK Black Hole Soap– I featured Black Hole soap on eBay previously but I’ve never noticed the Cygnus version of this before.

EBAY LINK Kojak Bike Siren– It is my goal on 5 awesome things on eBay to feature every weird bit of Kojak merchandise ever. I was a kid in the 1970s and yes, we knew who Kojak was but we never once, all said “Let’s play Kojak!”. We played SWAT, Emergency, and even CHiPs (I always ended up Sarge, boo!) but I cannot remember any kid on my cul-de-sac ever saying “who loves you, baby?”

EBAY LINK Secret Wars Captain America Airborn Parachutes by Fleetwood- These seem like the 80s version of the Azrak Hamway parachute figures I obsess about but I can’t abide that basket, it’s like Cap has gone for a balloon ride, I imagine he’s got a nice bottle of Reisling and some brie in there too.

Havoc Super Agent Doll Training Pack Weapons Set- HAVOC is this amazing UK 70s toyline that is basically fashion dolls that are butt-kicking spies, it’s really ahead of it’s time. The dolls are a little too stylized for my liking but the art on these boxes is wonderful, EBAY LINKseller also has another adventure kit up for grabs. I really need to do a feature in Toy-Ventures on these soon.

EBAY LINK Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind Puzzle– My friend Dave sent me this with the note “Don’t you want a puzzle of naked space children?” and yeah, this is probably one of the reasons that Star Wars merch sold better.
