Barbie Envy

While not born a girl and being fortunate enough that my parents didn’t try to raise me as one regardless, I find it odd how nostalgic this page makes me. I think as a kid I was envious that Barbie got that cool boat and Big Jim didn’t. Barbie and Jim shared campers, planes, cars […]

P.A.C.K Attack

Big Jim’s P.A.C.K has always been a grand obsession of mine although space issues forced me to part with much of my collection years ago. The carded outfits (like the SWAT set pictured here) are especially large and hard to display. The Swamp Boat pictured here is difficult to find especially boxed, there is also […]

Colouring Book Theatre : Big JIm and the P.A.C.K

When I can on Saturdays, I am going to provide an overview of what’s inside of some of the cooler colouring books from the 1970’s.I decided to open with Big Jim and the P.A.C.K seeing as it’s based on one of my favourite toy lines of that era.Whitman had released a Big Jim All Star […]

Me Big JIm, No Wait Me Tarzan!

Even though this Mattel Tarzan set is made completely of recycled Big Jim pieces, (That’s Big Jeff as Lord Greystoke) it’s got to be one of my favourite action figures ever. For more Tarzan stuff check out our Tarzan Toys Gallery.

More Welcoming Back for Mr Kotter

Seeing as Gabe Kaplan is making news as an author these days it seems cool to revisit the Mattel Welcome Back Kotter dolls. The classroom playset had a record so you could reenact your favourite moments, the Sweathogs motorcycle was a clever recycling of Big Jim’s motor cross bike. Mattel never throws anything out!

The Ultimate 70’s Action Figure Tribute

ACTION FIGURES, CLASSIC 70’S by ~dusty-abell on deviantARTI got sent a link to this amazing piece by Dusty Abell last night and just had to showcase it today. This is pretty much how things looked in my six year old mind, I’m truly floored and need to get a copy of this somehow for my […]

Big Jim knows what time it is!

I had no idea Mattel was so watch friendly, not only can you get Big Jim, Barbie and Hot Wheels watches as well. The Big Jim He-Man watch is probably my favourite though, I wonder if Mattel licensed a He Man watch ten years later?

Big Jim Means Big Adventure

I don’t collect it now but man the Big Jim Camper pictured on this page just rocked my world back in ’74. I remember drooling over that boat and buggy set. Early Big Jim is just so representative of the early 70s, you can’t get more peaceful than a guy who goes fishing. I still […]

Professional Agents Crime Killers

New at Plaidstallions.com is the 1976 Big Jim and the Wolf Pack catalog, the theme this year was Double Trouble and it’s seriously cool. As an added bonus I’ve added a few images of the toys in their boxes to the mix.

1974 True Value Toy Catalog

Continuing our True Value series is this cool toy catalog from 1974, it’s amazing how much things can change in a year or so. 1974 seemed to be a true mix of old guard toys mingling with the new, Big JIm rubs elbows with Johnny West. Barbie turns 16 and Ken goes Mod. Standards such […]
