Wonderful Wonderbug

Steve F sent in this killer scan from a Duncan Catalog that featured something I’ve never seen before, a toy car based on the Sid and Marty Krofft series Wonderbug! Wonderbug was a segment on the Krofft Supershow and I doubt I missed an episode. I have no idea if these hit stores, I’ve never […]

Big Jim Pirates

While Big Jim was a memory in North America by 1978, European kids were getting cool new figures with kung fu grip hands. These pirates were mostly recycled P.A.C.K characters but they’re so cleverly done (especially the Zorak character) that it deserves praise.

Spider-Man visits Ohio

JD sent in this great vintage shot of a Spider-Man appearance in Cleveland 1978 although he can’t quite remember the store it looks like Spider-Man is in the Office Supplies section. If that didn’t rock enough, JD also submitted this uber cool shot of what the “Free Spider-Man Button” looked like from last week’s ad. […]

The Dynamic Duo

As promised, we’re beginning a series about the 70s stage extravaganza “Bugs Bunny meets the Superheroes” thanks to some negatives unearthed by my buddy Lou. First off are the caped crusaders themselves (and some kid) doing a photo opoutside the show. More coolness next week.

The End of the line for the Bionic Man and Woman

1978 saw the end of Kenner’s wildly popular Six Million Dollar man line. Despite dwindling sales, Kenner revamped Steve with “Bio Sonic” power and gave him a new villain to fight in the form of the Venus Space Probe. So while Steve Austin might have been on his way out, he certainly went with a […]

1978 plus Remco Equals Spiderman!

In 1978, Remco, a division of Azrak Hamway International, figured out a way to get in on the Superhero action figure business long held onto by their rivals at Mego. Energized Spiderman was more statue than action figure (most likely due to licensing restrictions) but he was a giant hit in 1978 and the line […]

Sit on the Superfriends

I never run into vintage Bean bag chairs at antique malls or toy shows, they must have just been thrown out most of the time. I’m digging this Superfriends one the most. You almost get the whole Justice League in there including Batgirl, who was an odd choice. She also ended up on the Superfriends […]

Did you invite Godzilla?

I’m loving this 1978 Sears spread featuring Hasbro Super Joe, I’m just somewhat curious as to why Godzilla from the Shogun Warriors was crowbarred into the back like that. It works though doesn’t it? Little kids don’t care that the toys aren’t from the same lines (unless you were that really anal kid) and this […]

Pajama Time

Christmas Eve makes me think of Pajamas, it always has and here are some super cool stylings from 31 years ago. Given the choice at the time, no doubt I would reach for Captain America, which seems weird because I’m Canadian. That Spock is pretty darn sweet too though.Happy Holidays peoples! Where ever you are […]
