Playset Love

Playset Love

While the Marx Naverone set is cool and you can never go wrong with some plastic dinosaurs (especially in combination with the army men!) I think the big star for me here is the Martian landing playset.

Astronauts, vehicles and that Big wheel space station? That’s all i need. I’m pretty sure you can still find these same astronauts in dollar stores.

nostalgic curmudgeon that I am, I have to do the standard gripe/whine wonder what happened to playsets? No set story, just a bunch of figures, vehicles and cheapo landcape elements.

I totally had those dinosaurs… the yellow Tyrannosaurus was my fave!

I think I have some of those “same astronauts” , not from a cool play set but from one of those supermarket packs… or was it the NASA gift shop, huh?

I have to agree with you, arkonbey. Playsets were where it was at for me. I rarely used the figures that came with them. I had a whole series of small plastic or ceramic animals and played with them until I was 12 with any number of playsets.

Man,oh,man do I miss me some Navarone playset. I remember getting one for Christmas about 1979 or so and just loving it. Also had a Martian landscape (with cool see-through dome) playset that I saved my allowance FOREVER to get.

When I think of my childhood, memories of my Navarone playset always come up. That was the coolest toy.
