Doris Fish Forever “Vegas In Space” Action Doll Kickstarter Announced
July 9, San Francisco, CA
Doris Fish Forever is pleased to announce the July 10 launch of a Kickstarter campaign to finance officially licensed 8 inch Action Dolls inspired by the beloved 1991 LGBTQ cult movie classic ‘Vegas In Space’, co-created by Doris Fish (1952-1991), Miss X, and Phillip R Ford.
The Kickstarter runs for 30 days and will finance the production of a set of four articulated, clothed figures with the goal of delivering to product backers by December of this year. Stretch goals for additional characters will be offered.
Created by artist and transgender activist Robyn Adams, the founder of both Mego Museum and Doris Fish Forever, this project brings together her love of 1970s 8-inch action figures and her passion project archiving and celebrating the life and work of Australian drag pioneer Doris Fish and her group the Sluts A Go-Go.
Manufactured by White Elephant Toys (Adventure Command, Lincoln Monsters, the Official Tura Santana action figure) and designed with toy industry professionals Andrew Covalt (sculptor for Mego) and Esther Skandunas (costumer for Mattel, Sideshow Collectibles) as well as Mego community artist Jessica Rotich these dolls are “SIMPLY STUNNING,” as Doris Fish would say.
Already the subject of a comprehensive NEW YORK TIMES BEST-SELLING 2023 biography, “Who Does That Bitch Think She Is: Doris Fish and the Rise of Drag”, the making of Doris Fish’s Vegas In Space (co-written with Miss X and film director Phillip R Ford) has just been optioned for a movie co-written by filmmaker and podcaster Michael Varrati and by drag superstar Peaches Christ, who will also direct.
The 1991 film is also slated to be restored and released on 4k Blu-Ray by Troma Entertainment, the original distributors of the film, which was shown at both the Cannes and Sundance film festivals.
