JJ and OJ

JJ and OJ

Two celebrity dolls, two very different professions. The guy on the bottom is J.J Armes by Ideal, a real life detective who lost his hands as a child and uses prosthetics. I saw the commercial for this as a kid but for a long time thought I dreamt it.
The other doll by Shindana had a real spike in value in the mid ninties, for reasons I don’t want to remember.

Wow. That has to be the only double-amputee action figure ever.

    rob!: ouch, man.

Are those suction cup hands??? Sweet!

Sound advice, rob. Especially if OJ borrows JJ’s machete accessory.

I like to think I’m pretty informed child of the ’70s, so I can’t believe I’ve never heard of JJ (or Jay J, as it appears is the correct spelling). The following is from his press release (via Wikipedia): “Amazingly, Jay can now do more with the fantastic steel claws that have replaced his hands than people with their own hands can do. He can reach into fire, smash through doors, fire bullets with unerring accuracy, cut through metal, fly utilizing a jet pack, scuba dive, pilot a jet — and he is the master of the deadliest karate chop. No wonder Jay J. Armes is the most famous, most sought after investigator in the world.”

How could you NOT make an action figure of this guy?

How do you karate chop with a hook? Wouldn’t that just be hitting the other person? Doesn’t the act of karate chopping involve a flat palm?

Don’t you be nitpicking on Jay J’s press release. He’ll kill you with his chops! They puncture!

And remember, he can scuba dive and pilot a jet – things people with their own hands CAN’T do!

OMG, I can’t believe I was being so insensitive! He’s not handicapped — he’s handicapable!

The coolest part of that OJ doll is the attention to detail:

There’s nothing in his pockets but knives and lint.

Yep.I remember learning about the real J.J. from an episode of–what else?–Real People. And I had a J.J. Armes. Still do in the basement somewhere, actually, though missing a few "hands." Was gonna sell it on eBay, but it doesn't look like the figure is going for enough $ to make it worth the trouble.
