Colouring Book Theatre: Star Trek

Colouring Book Theatre: Star Trek

Star Trek: Coloring Book By Saalfield  (1975),
Another submission from the very generous Tracy, this is the fifth time I’ve covered Star Trek on CBT and I do so because a) they are mostly terrible and b) I like terrible.
This book by Saalfield is head and shoulders above trek books I’ve reviewed before and it’s well coloured to boot!

Grab your crayons and beam down me after the jump

The artist seems to be very good with likeness, although you can see that they’re given a small amount of publicity shots to reference from.

Another appearance of “White Uhura”, for some reason mid seventies Trek merchandise always drew her as some generic blonde lady, kudos for the child who corrected this with their crayons.

Mr Sulu is always a regular of colouring books, I am not sure why he makes the cut over Scotty or Dr McCoy. He’s always kind of off model…

The plot involves plants that put people to sleep which is a million times better than the clown planet but nowhere near as fun.

A quick blast of agent orange later,  the colony is saved and our brave crew enjoys their favourite General Foods International coffees, Mr Spock enjoys “Montreal Morn”.

And we close with a shot of donuts, this  happens occasionally in colouring books, one artist seemed particularly obsessed with donuts.

Thanks again Tracy! If you have a submission for colouring book theatre drop me a line at brick *at* plaidstallions.com!

I like how the kid knew that Takei was gay.

Notice that out of all the colors to chose from this kid colored Sulu yellow. I chose to believe that the kid didn't mean anything by this.

I absolutely CHERISH the COFFEE BREAK in this Star Trek coloring book. This made my day. Seriously. Thank for the link to the other COFFEE/DONUT break, too. I would love to see more references to coffee…. if you can think of any off the top of your head.
