The Archie Plush doll (sponsored link)-

I had the ad for this toy, which I think was mail order only, in an old hand-me-down Archie comic as a kid. As an adult collector, I have never run into one and kind of stopped looking. My friend Courtney (who always sends me coolness) sent me this auction the other day and wow, there it is. It’s exactly as advertised, and I wish I could justify its purchase.

Durham’s Ranger Action Figure (sponsored link) —

I did a piece on these figures for Toy-Ventures magazine and, in doing so, developed an affection for this goofy series. Durham made these little guys with push-button action for stores like Ben Franklin and Woolworths. There are some nods to pop culture with a character that looks like a young Kwai Chang Caine and an ersatz Evel Knievel. The line is relatively low-cost to collect, and certain figures never pop up, so if you’re into dime-store toys that won’t break the bank, this is the hunt for you!

I was obsessed with the Black Hole as a fourth grader; it was really a big deal to me, and I would have rocked this!

Star Fleet / X-Bomber merchandise (sponsored link) –

I got hooked on Star Fleet thanks to that awesome Brian May video in the early 1980s and I tracked down the series after. It’s a Japanese puppet show heavily inspired by Gerry Anderson, which was popular in the UK (Aka the land of Gerry Anderson) and I could look at the merch all day long.
