Hand Puppet Horrors!

Hand Puppet Horrors!

The Remco Monsters at Home series is a weird little footnote in Monster toy lore, basically the company took the heads and hands of their 9″ Universal Monster dolls and made these charming little hand puppets complete with a plastic environment. What’s weird is, it all sort of makes sense, Dracula has a coffin, the Mummy a tomb, the Creature a sea chest and Frankenstein….. OK they don’t all work but there is something likable about this line.
I wonder why the Wolfman and Phantom of the Opera didn’t make it though, the Phantom could have popped out of an organ…

See that look? That’s the same face I make when you knock on my door on Saturday morning I’m missing the Creature if anybody has a picture they’d like to contribute, drop me a line.

The Frankenstein photo makes be think of Laugh-In.

LOL, Laugh In… Those puppets are all sorts of cool, I would buy those today if they made them!

Maybe that photo inspired the creators of “The Groovie Ghoulies”, since they ripped off that Laugh-In skit on their show . . .

Oh I have the creature! But I’d have to dig it up and I’m headed out for vacation for a month! Dang. Well I can say that I got it for Christmas, and it seemed really random as I didn’t receive horror related gifts, and for some reason I had a realllly huge soft spot for him, almost like he was a teddy bear. So cute living in that little treasure chest….

I remember these but not the cool containers they came in. An organ is a good idea for the Phantom, also cool would be a human shaped container for the wolfman to erupt out of from within. RIP! GRRR!

So cute! Closest I’ve seen to a modern one is a Vampire Girl from “Peek-A-Boo Petites” Barbie line…although she doesn’t come in a coffin. 🙁

Hmm, I’m starting to wish there were more monster-themed toys for girls…aside from the BeGoths stuff…
