Gulliver Super Amigos Batman Set
My friends at Heritage Auctions have an amazing collection of Batman items on the auction block right now and they’ve been kind enough to let me share some of this glorious collection.
The firat item that caught my attention is this glorious Batman costume for the Gulliver Super Amigos line. Who are the Super Amigos you ask? Well, it’s essentially Gulliver’s take on Captain Action but with a British twist. I’ll explain below:
The tooling for this line seems to originate in the United Kingdom, where Model Toys developed it as a line called DareDevil. DareDevil was a 9″ man of action that looked similar to the Gabriel Lone Ranger (they could be cousins) and had a “razors and razor blades” approach. The line seemed to focus mainly on themes such as the old west, Knights and even horseback riding. No licenses were ever utilized with DareDevil. However, Gulliver is a different story.
Model Toys went full on Captain Action with the range bringing not only the DC Comics heroes Superman, Batman, Robin and even Batgirl (!) but also Zorro and a superheroine called “Mulher-Maravilha,” which does translate to Wonder Woman but that sure don’t look like Linda Carter. Additional sets are direct from Model Toys, including Geronimo, Billy the Kid, General Custer and a football player.
These sets are incredibly uncommon, and I must admit I gasped when Justin showed me this; that doesn’t happen a whole bunch these days. I can’t imagine how hard it would be to complete the set, but wow, is Batman a good one to have.
Years ago, my friend Mark Huckabone bought a male Super Amigo wearing the Mulher-Maravila outfit; I really wish I had bought it.
I heartily encourage you to window shop this amazing Batman auction.
About Heritage Auctions:
The Ultimate Batman Collection auction contains 621 lots dating from the 1940’s to today. The bulk of the collection comes from the 1960’s and 70’s and contains a wide range of original Batman items including action figures, tin toys, trading cards, comics, posters, food packaging, models, puzzles, games, and so much more. Also included are many incredibly rare and one-of-a-kind pieces like dioramas by Hot Toys, original artwork by Walt Howarth, and several items that may be the only of their kind left in existence. The collection also reaches far into internationally-released Batman items as it was primarily collected 1970’s and 80’s by a well-traveled collector based in the UK. There are few vintage Batman collections that could rival the extensive nature of the one represented in this auction.
