Earthquake Tower : The Record

Earthquake Tower : The Record

I’ve blogged about Earthquake Tower before, the crazy likely Irwin Allen inspired playset where you basically get to simulate a major earthquake. Thanks to my buddy Doug, who hooked me up with another killer playset last year, we now have an audio file of the actual record that came with the set, to help you simulate the disaster. It’s really strange but I’m glad I got to hear it.

    "Samuel L. Bronkowitz presents…THAT'S ARMAGEDDON!"

I must say, that music is something else. I'm sure I will be hearing it in my dreams later.

This reminded me of a toy set I had as a kid. Does anyone remember an erector-type set of things where you could build buildings and such, sort of like advanced Legos, but with more detail to actual building. Damn, I have no idea of what it was called.

This Earthquake tower, btw, would have gotten SO much use between my brother and I. So cool.

sounds like the earthquake is happening during a parade

I can just imagine the reactions that toy would ignite if it were released in this era of hypocritical PC-ness. Even cooler than the toy itself!!!

@Wings – – that toy was called Girders and Panels, if we are htinking of the same toy.

I used to have this as a kid. I literally have been trying to find an audio file of the record for almost 35 years, so thank you!

@Paul – WOW. It is either the Girders & Panels, or the KenStruct, which I also found upon searching when you posted. Thank you! A long-time memory gap slowly filled in. How cool.

Man, Power Records missed the chance at a major tie-in with this one…

They must've let the audio dept at Hanna-Barbera edit this… sounds like Augie Dogie or Wally Gator's about to show up.

    Or the Super Friends…

My parents got this for me one Christmas. I didn't even ask for it — they just saw it in the store and thought, "Hell yeah!"

The best part is actually the figures. They're army men-sized little dudes and some are just normal police and firefighters. But there were also one or two types that were basically screaming people. I remember some guy with his mouth wide open and his arms flailing in the air, and you just knew he was running from certain death. I'd love to see those figures again.

As cool as this toy is, it would never make it in a post 9/11 world.

Oddly enough, I don't remember this toy. I would have loved this.

I just thought about this after watching the towering inferno…

    Wow. Wow. Wow.

I had this toy when I was like 6 or so… I remember the very first thing that happened when the top tower fell off… the plastic antenna broke on impact 🙂

I can not believe you actually have the audio from the floppy, little 45.

    Thanks for making my day!
