DORMEI IS THE BEST! (1983
Continuing exploring this 1983 Hong Kong Toy Trade publication, this week, we focus on the DorMei Factory, famous for making rubber dinosaurs, giant bugs, and Sharks that were often sold by marketed by American companies like Imperial Toys.
I have to say that I had a lot of those rubber bugs, at one point a local bakery had them on the counter with a bag of Jimmies in their abdomens. I’ve also wanted that Lizard man creature for a long time. He reminds me of “It! The Terror from Beyond Space.”
I’m not sure “Crying” is the word they should have used here but I see how they got there. I had tons of those Dinosaurs and I imagine DorMei made them by the millions. They would also go on to produce a truly memorable Godzilla Knock Off in 1984, see below:
