Colouring Book Theatre: Doctor Who Press Out Book
‘Doctor Who Press Out Book” by World
It’s been entirely too long since I did a colouring book theatre, this is mostly due to laziness as I’ve actually got some material kicking around. This fine book was gifted to me by Ray Miller, who runs the cool Micronauts fan group Micropolis Embassy.
The punch outs are long gone, part of Ray’s happy childhood but the colouring pages remain.
I must attest to being somewhat fascinated with Tom Baker/Doctor Who merchandise, a lot of it is really kind of gloomy and unkidlike. The BBC has a weird reputation about licensing and it shows.
The cover is really nicely illustrated although it’s a bit dark looking for something being marketed to children, note the Lizard:
More after the jump.
There is no story here, merely some (mostly) well drawn images of the Doctor and Romana 1 that look to be culled from stills.
I’ve got another Tom Baker era colouring book kicking around that I’ll review next month.
Next Week: The Oddball Couple
"Bob Dylan and Kate Bush visit a giant Lizard. " – All killer, no filler; great job as always dude. Keep the Coloring Book Theaters coming!
The Tom Baker era merchandising was particularly sad. The illustrations in the annuals were downright frightening! Things started to improve with the Dr. Who Weekly and really took off in the 80s. I don't know why the BBC took so long to recognize the licensing potential of Dr. Who. Perhaps Star Wars finally woke them up.
