Colouring Book Theatre: Shogun Warriors

Colouring Book Theatre: Shogun Warriors

 Shogun Warriors: Dragun”
I have to admit, I was  excited when I found scans of this book over at (sponsor) Sherryloutoys website.

Mostly because it was free but also because Marvel’s “Shogun Warriors” comic usually took my 35 cents  if there wasn’t a new issue of “Star Wars” or “Micronauts” on the rack.

I was always a fan of that book even into adulthood, so I’m assuming that Whitman probably aped Marvel and produced a fun book. Sounds like a safe bet right?

Nooooope.

More after the jump.

OK, so much of the beginning is focused on this little girl (referred to in this tome as “little girl”) and her dog as they are being chased by invading bat creatures from the Planet Uglon.

How does our sentient robotic hero find about it you ask?

At the newsstand where he’s likely checking his lotto numbers and getting his “TV bingo” cards like any good octogenarian.

Plus aren’t the Shogun Warriors giants? Seriously, I’m asking here.

So Dragun goes around saving children and going from being gigantic to man sized from page to page. Seriously, those bat creatures were picking up cars a few pages back, now they’re tiny compared to him.

This goes on for many, many pages, eventually this leads to a confrontation with the king of Uglon and Dragun takes on the planets defenses….

..and he destroys the planet, wiping the entire Uglon race off from existence…

So this robot, has the weaponry to wipe out an entire race and everybody is cool with him just roaming around doing whatever he wants? Seriously, he can destroy a planet with his wrist rockets. No senate hearings? No tribunals? Just a creepy peck on the cheek and “good job” for committing genocide?

I am not alright with that Whitman Publishing!

If you have a colouring book you’d like to guest review, I’d like to hear from you!

Ha! Another comic book drawn without much reference to the actual storylines 🙂

I love the font. Looks like the one they used for Masters of the Universe.

Seriously, Phoenix got called on the carpet bigtime for committing the same offense. Dragun got off way too easy!

I wonder if he got in on any of that $1.98 Dress action the paper was advertising.

Luckily, the term "U.F.O." is explained in parentheses on the cover. Otherwise I never would have known what is going on here.

I had this as a kid! I vividly remember getting this coloring book and loving it. Boy, was I stupid.

"Seriously, he can destroy a planet with his wrist rockets. No senate hearings? No tribunals?"

You're surprised? The Imperial Senate rubber-stamped Governor Tarkin's appointment to Grand Moff after he turned Alderaan into an asteroid field.

Besides, Dragun had the right idea. Maybe the Uglon economy has a substantial dollar value but sometimes you have to nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
