This wonderful Magnetic figure was retooled for the Micronauts, and while I have a loose one, this boxed one is well priced and super tempting. What I’m saying is, please take this temptation away.

Sesame Street Calendars (affiliate link) —

I vividly remember the 1978 Sesame Street Calendar, I even remember my dad having to borrow it to plan something for his business. I may have had some of the earlier ones but the memory has faded. 

Space Sentinels figure by Fleetwood Toys (affiliate link)—-

My love and admiration for the Filmation Space Sentinels is well documented (see video below); this is the closest we got to action figures. The seller also has Astrea, but sadly, no Hercules.

Don Moor Star Trek Lives Shirt (Affiliate Link)—

Don Moor an incredible array of Star Trek shirts that would get you beat up in a grade school. This one, featuring that glorious gold key font, was probably better than cosplaying at school. 

Fleetwood painted Marvel Superheroes lot (Affiliate Link) ––

These figures were released in 1977 (see the catalog page here) and are smaller versions of the Marx Superheroes, sold as fully painted figures in dump bins. They were cast in Red, helping out many of the characters’ paint apps (I’m looking at you, Matt Murdock!). I discovered these in the 1980s when I bought a childhood set from Shawn, the clerk at my LCS. I sold them and wished I had not; they’re so cool even in this state.

Bionic Woman Model Kit (eBay Affiliate Link) —

This kit will forever remind me of high school, as there were a few of these in different variety stores during the late 1980s. Bionic stuff lingered on many store shelves, and I passed one every day going to school. It finally sold in the 90s I guess?  I never bought it, but now I’m admiring it more. However, why is Oscar Goldman performing the task? Did Rudy get kidnapped by Fembots again?

Excel Toys Kojak set with villain (eBay Affiliate Link) —

Longtime PlaidStallions readers will know that I am borderline obsessed with Kojak merchandise. It’s such a weird fit and I especially love the action figure, which I proudly own. This is the rare catalogue set that includes “Bad Guy” which in reality is an AHI Butch Cavendish Knock Off figure that looks like a Footlocker employee. I wouldn’t trade my childhood for anything.

Fleetwood Glowing Marvel Superheroes Display Box (eBay Affiliate Link) —

When I stumbled upon this, it gave me a feeling I haven’t had in ages, just pure wonder. This is a display box for label slap flashlights that were really, really crappy, but the label is Marvel FREAKING Superheroes! It’s Marvel comics in its Bronze Age glory, and the Fantastic Four are involved. I cut my teeth on Kirby/Lee FF thanks to Treasury Editions and I adore those characters as a result (Also, the Corman Movie is currently the most faithful, don’t agree? Bike Racks at 3:15) . I know if you click on this link, I may get a shiny penny, so you have no reason to trust me, but I implore you to check this auction out; the images will likely stir some emotion. 

The price tag will also elicit some emotion, but where else can you find such a thing?

Inflatable Planet of the Apes Cornelius (eBay Affiliate Link) —

Oh, good golly, Miss Molly, smooshing Planet of the Apes with Poly Vinyl Chloride, maybe the “Peanut Butter and Chocolate” of toy making. I own one of these in the baggy, and while I overpaid (waaaay too much Christmas cheer and watching an Apes movie), it inspired the Infl8able Monster premium for issue 12 of Toy-Ventures. I’ll never regret the purchase, that’s for sure!

End Run Mego Micronauts Antron (eBay Affiliate Link) —

At some point during the dissolving of Mego Corporation, a whole bunch of oddball items appeared at Toys R Us stores under the “Lion Rock” banner (*psssssst* Lion Rock was Mego all along!) and all of them are awesome and weird! Case in point, these “factory floor sweeping” put onto cards. Antron doesn’t have any of his cool weapons but hey, he’s 97 cents!

As a kid, I would have fallen for this ruse, by the way. I want this damned thing now!

Hagar the Horrible Halloween Costume by Collegeville (eBay Affiliate Link) —

I unabashedly love Hagar the Horrible and was so amused to find this. As a fan of comic strips, none aged more poorly than Hagar, but so undeservedly so. I adore the faithful paint mask on this. I have a weird story about Hagar comics from my childhood, but I’ll do it in the next PodStallions Nerdtherapy session.

Even though Fleetwood began in the 1970s by grabbing such high-brow licenses as Charlie’s Angels and the Marvel Comics Superheroes for Rack Toys, the 1980s seemed to be the company’s high point with them retaining many high ticket licenses from TV and movies.

1984 is a good example of how Fleetwood was doing with some of the most popular TV faces like the A-Team and TJ Hooker, alongside riskier brands like Sword and the Sorcerer and Manimal. The Marvel Superheroes were back under the Secret Wars brand and they even dabbled in a little Hardcastle and McCormick.

TJ Hooker was Fleetwoods vehicle to sell toy guns, handcuffs, and police cars that year. If you asked me, they totally missed the boat not having a car with a Shatner figure on the hood.

The A-Team was huge with kids and it gave Fleetwood the excuse to slap a label on a bunch of Rack Toy standards. In this case, even the toolset makes sense!

That Mr T Flashlight is absolutely inspired.

Daydreams and Cuddles were two in-house lines for Fleetwood to capture the girl’s market. They didn’t seem to have any female-centric licenses this year.

Sword and the Sorcerer was an R-rated affair that came out in 1982 (although a lot of us discovered it on cable). It’s very odd to see toys for children based on a film with nudity and gore. Also, are these the only toys based on an Albert Pyun film? I think so.

Manimal was a short-lived NBC TV series famous for its very strange premise. Some of the Manimal “figures” ended up in Sword and the Sorcerer sets. This should surprise no one.

Fleetwood had a long-running relationship with Marvel Comics  which continued when the line rebranded under the Secret Wars banner. Instead of parachuting superheroes, they became balloonists, which is even sillier.
Hardcastle and McCormick was an ABC series about an ex-judge and ex-con teaming up blah, blah, blah, everyone remembers the car.

EBAY LINK Black Hole Soap- 5 Awesome Things on eBay

EBAY LINK Black Hole Soap– I featured Black Hole soap on eBay previously but I’ve never noticed the Cygnus version of this before.

EBAY LINK Kojak Bike Siren– It is my goal on 5 awesome things on eBay to feature every weird bit of Kojak merchandise ever. I was a kid in the 1970s and yes, we knew who Kojak was but we never once, all said “Let’s play Kojak!”. We played SWAT, Emergency, and even CHiPs (I always ended up Sarge, boo!) but I cannot remember any kid on my cul-de-sac ever saying “who loves you, baby?”

EBAY LINK Secret Wars Captain America Airborn Parachutes by Fleetwood- These seem like the 80s version of the Azrak Hamway parachute figures I obsess about but I can’t abide that basket, it’s like Cap has gone for a balloon ride, I imagine he’s got a nice bottle of Reisling and some brie in there too.

Havoc Super Agent Doll Training Pack Weapons Set- HAVOC is this amazing UK 70s toyline that is basically fashion dolls that are butt-kicking spies, it’s really ahead of it’s time. The dolls are a little too stylized for my liking but the art on these boxes is wonderful, EBAY LINKseller also has another adventure kit up for grabs. I really need to do a feature in Toy-Ventures on these soon.

EBAY LINK Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind Puzzle– My friend Dave sent me this with the note “Don’t you want a puzzle of naked space children?” and yeah, this is probably one of the reasons that Star Wars merch sold better.
