Amazing Spanish Sticker book (affiliate link)–

I featured this incredible sticker book in the “regerts” part of my Monster Bash recap. I can’t begin to describe how cool it is. It seems to have been a puzzle activity, but the range of characters is amazing, including Paul Naschy as Waldemar! It’s epic, amazing, and I wish I had bought it. I can’t get over how many 80s Fantasy playsets used the same characters. I never saw this clever set before but nearly all of the monsters are old friends. Heck it even includes the Colorforms Outer Space men in there (which I had in this cool set Alien Attack, see below.)

Miyarabi’s Prayer: Kill Mechagodzilla 45 

While this is from my favourite Godzilla film of all time, I was never a fan of this song to King Cesar as a kid because it slowed down an otherwise fast paced film. I never knew it was released as a single before.

As much as I chuckled at this figure as a kid and it was a lot, I love this mailer box “Catalog Version” of the figure complete with a trenchcoat and a bull horn, that’s just good value.

I’m going to assume this was likely produced by Vanity Fair for Sears but it’s pretty ingenious, thanks to the carrot microphone. What can I say, kids like to be loud and that never changes.

I’ve never understood why any kid needed an executive desk set; even as an executive, I never had one of these. I would have liked a Planet of the Apes one personally….

Ben Cooper Dr. Strange Halloween Costume (eBay Affiliate Link) __

Doctor Strange got some merch in the late 1970s and early 1980s, likely due to his 1978 CBS TV movie that did not go to series. The Ben Cooper merch (including the Jigger) has this weirdly angry face for some reason. I think it works, but I have always pictured the character as a cool cucumber.

You have to applaud Europe for adding female characters to the GI Joe Adventure team and giving them cool outfits. I was to shy to buy female characters as a kid and well, that’s a shame. I’ve changed my mind on the whole thing now.

Japanese Superman Car model (affiliate Link) —

The one thing I love about Japanese model kits is that I’m always finding something new, and I hope that it never changes. I don’t know why Superman needs a car, but I so want to see this movie that the box is promising. It’s mid-century cool and I don’t care if it has a single word of dialogue. I want this Superman to beat up those Johnny Quest robots a whole bunch.

Mattel Slime with Worms commercial (eBay Link) —

I never had slime as a kid, well, not “official Mattel brand” Slime; I did manage some through a grocery store vending machine (so good!) For some reason, I vividly remember this commercial and really wanting the stuff. In hindsight, this sort of thing is almost impossible to ignore when you’re six. 

The Aliens figure (eBay Link)—

These Shogun Warrior knock off figures came out in the late 1970s and are absolutely charming. I’m personally in love with the logo.

Bootleg Visitor ship from “V” (eBay Link)–

We sure did robbed of officially licensed V toys in the 1980s but wow, did bootleggers try to fill that void. I love these little shuttle replicas and the seller has a whole bunch of options. I’ve also heard there is a segment on bootleg V action figures in the latest issue of Toy-Ventures. I know a guy there.

Black Velvet Bruce Lee (eBay Link) —

I don’t think I really need to explain this; it speaks for itself. For those not into Kung Fu, may I offer you this hilarious off-brand Black Velvet Tweety Bird?

Jaws era Shark Puzzle (eBay Link) –

I can’t honestly tell if I like official “Jaws” merchandise more than “Generic Shark meant to look like Jaws” merchandise. They’re both kind of awesome.

Spider-Man and Captain America Richochet Racers (eBay Link) —

I’ve never owned these toys but have always been obsessed with them since I saw them at my friend Richard’s House. None of it makes sense and none of it has to, I always loved the comic book ad for this, it also makes zero sense, even to a kid.

AHI Planet of the Apes Zing Wing

AHI Planet of the Apes Zing Wing (eBay Link) —

AHI Sold a lot of Zing-Wings based on pop culture, like Star Trek and Spider-Man. The word “Frisbee” was the one we all used but all the other toy companies had to make up their own word. 

Tomland Bionic Woman Knock Off (eBay Link) —

For those not in the know, Tomland Toys was a company not exactly all that concerned about lawsuits. Case in point, they produced the second most galling copyright theft next to “Mr. Rock” by Lincoln International. “Sonic Woman” was a Bionic Woman clone. She wears a red track suit and has two silver limbs. I love her.

Bootleg Carnival Plush C3-PO (eBay Link) —

I don’t have words. I’m not a big Star Wars guy, but I am a fan of bootlegs and Carnivals (and, as an aside, Corndogs), so as Khan said, “It Tasks Me!” But I’m probably going to forget about it.

Fireball XL-5 Paper Dolls (eBay Link) —

I’m too young for Gerry Anderson’s Fireball X-L5, but I admire its mid-century “retro-future” charm. It’s so delightful. I know the entire theme tune and love seeing the detail in the merchandise. Lovely stuff but I don’t really know the series all that well.

Milton Brady Pink Lady (Minus Jeff) Boardgame (eBay Link) —

“Pink Lady” were a Japanese sensation before they got their variety series in the US. What blows my mind more here is not that they got a game but that Milton Bradley was also doing board games in Japan? I learned today! I deserve a reward of some kind!

Mego Klingon Card Variant (eBay Link) —

I guess for a brief time in the UK, Palitoy ran out of Klingon Cards and just created this jazzy sticker to go over it. Just a running change in a company’s day-to-day problem solving, now an insane adult collectible. I won’t make fun; I love this sort of thing, and the Mego Klingon is a brilliant action figure.

Original Black Hole Magazine Cover Art (eBay Link) —

As a lover of all things Black Hole, I will say this is striking. The Cygnus is one of the coolest space ships ever built. My only quibble with this is and no offense to Robert Forster but why no Vincent or Bob? Not to mention Ernest Borgnine, he sells magazines, people!

Chuck E Cheese Statue (eBay Link)—

I didn’t enter a Chuck E. Cheese until my twenties when I took a girl on a date there. However, I grew up watching the commercials on Buffalo 29 as a kid, so I do get nostalgic for this kind of thing. 

Shindana Slade (eBay Link) —

I sincerely straight up adore Shindana Toy’s crime-fighting badass! He’s a street-wise, college-educated army vet turned government agent. I treat him like a de-facto member of Big Jim’s P.A.C.k.

I don’t know about you guys but this kind of stuff never made it to my mall. We’d be lucky to get Batman or a Generic Hero T-Shirt (I had Captain Whizzo) but this was “Heroes World” stuff, that was it. Wow, I just love this and the seller has a pile more.

Space:1999 Commander Koenig Bank (eBay Link)—

As a child, I’d have really saved better if I had the stern face of Martin Landau judging me. Commander Koenig would have probably talked me out of that ice cream because I’m saving to order from Heroes World. Where were you when I needed you, Martin Landau?

Rod Hull Emu Game (eBay Link) —

My wife has a childhood phobia over Rod Hull’s Emu. I always liked his routine but I also see how it would creep out a kid. I plan to buy this game to hopefully have one of those “Maury Povich” moments where I chase her around with it. 

Web Woman Halloween Costume (eBay Link) —

My obsession with Filmations “Tarzan and Super 7” is well documented here.  Web Woman would be my #1 favourite of those shows and I literally buy anything I see with her on it (which is not much!)  I own this suit and have featured it here.

Torak Estrella Falcon figure (eBay Link) –

Brazil strikes again with cool toys. Torak is the enemy of Falcon (AKA GI Joe) and he’s ten times better than the Intruder. I can’t say enough about how cool these are. For those not into an original vintage Torak’s price tag, there are well-done reproductions available. 

House of Frankenstein Wax Museum Decal (eBay Link) –

I’m obsessed with the Lake George NY House of Frankenstein wax museum, despite never having been there. We used to have a Canadian version here in the falls that is still there but it’s more of a haunted house now. 

AHI Spider-Man Super Klobbers (eBay Link)–

AHI pretty much swiped the “Socker Boppers” concept for these licensed versions. I featured the Batman set about a month or so back but I’ve never seen the Spider-Man set before and look! A rare cameo from Iron Man!

I was about to say, “I don’t remember this,” but then I realized a) I was nine and b) I only knew the beer my dad bought, and well, he liked the German stuff. Now I like the German stuff because I stole much of his beer.

It’s funny how things work; you couldn’t pay me to wear this as a kid. If I showed this to either of my kids, they’d beg me to buy it for them. I gotta know if there is a Judd Hirsch one.

Carded GI Joe Bulletman (eBay Link) –

Bullet Man was once the ridicule of GI Joe collectors, but to me, he was GI Joe. Fun story, when I was 5 and got Bullet Man, I had to rescue his package from the garbage. I seriously took it out of the bags on the curb; I think that says a lot about me.

Now I will advise you that while it isn’t very sturdy, there is no way anybody else will have these at the airport.
