Battlestar Galactica Vertibird (eBay Link) —

Okay, so technically, this isn’t a Battlestar Galactica toy, but it totally is. Mattel pulled a little label-slap action (something that is VERY Mattel) swapping BSG (which I assume aired in Italy?) with the very popular Mazinga Z television series. Such “nobody will notice” swappery can also be seen on the Remco Land of the Giants Space Sled (AKA Super Car) and Fonzie’s Dream Rod.

Spider-Man Inflatable Kite (eBay link)

I miss goofy inflatable kits, this Spider-Man one seems to have the “webbing underarms” I seem to be obsessed with. Spider-Man seems naked without them !

Universal Stuidos tour from 1977 film (eBay Link) ––

I am obsessed with the Universal Studios tour, it’s where I went on my honeymoon. This preloaded home movie is a joy. I shouldn’t be surprised such things existed, but it was new to me. I am happy to say that you can watch this whole thing on YouTube for free, hooray!

Diener Monster Erasers (eBay Link)

Bless you Diener for making school supplies fun, these were a massive deal in grade school. I once had a whole store display of the Aliens but foolishly sold it.

Doc Savage promotional statue (eBay Link)

Speaking of selling regrets (or have we all just switched to “Regerts” now?) , I bought one of these promo statues in 1987 at a Toronto comic show for about 20 bucks. I love the Doc Savage movie and I was on a big reading kick of the novels at the time. In college, someone offered me 100 dollars for it, and I took it; it was too much to pass up. Seeing the price on this one made me realize I may never reunite with Doc. It’s still super bad ass and I’ll keep a space for it on my shelf.

Kung Fu Super 8 Movies

As if I didn’t have enough obsessions, I’ve recently discovered Kung Fu movies came on Super 8 reels, I own a projector and I love Kung Fu movies, so guess what happened?

Anyway, the beauty of collecting these is nobody cares, seriously the three films I showcase here? Under $20. A total win/win.

These fine films will be debuting on my deck this weekend!

Monster Squad Frankenstein– Admittadly, i prefer the TV series “The Monster Squad” over the 1980s movie but everytime I do a search I do run into these custom Mego-esque figures done by the amazing Distinctive Dummies and they give me pause.

Cliffhangers TV Week Cover– Remember the TV series “Cliffhangers” featuring three stories that were supposed to channel old movie serials. It was one of my favourite TV shows growing up and other than some press photos this is like the only piece of merchandise ever.

Tarzan Card Game by Mattel- I’m not big on card games but that all changes when the packaging is done by JACK FREAKING KIRBY. Jack’s rendition of Tarzan is a little weird which of course, makes it ten times more awesome.

Lili Ledy Tusken Raider- In Mexico, Lili Ledy made their own officially licensed 12″ figures, they’re whacky, a little off model and totally adorable. None so much as this, the Tusken Raider or “Sand Person” which of course, Kenner never made. I seriously want one of these badly but of course, they’re ridiculously hard to find. Why I am always attracted to such pretty things?

Mazinger Super 8 Film- I love Shogun Warriors, Foreign items and Super 8 movies so this Japanese Super 8 film hits a lot of buttons for me. It’s super pricey but this is really window shopping anyway.

This year my collection of Super 8 Monster movies has increased 300 fold (mainly cause i started with like one last year). While I planned to only buy these in the wild, some good deals on our vintage toys facebook group combined with Rodan coming from a generous friend makes me a happy boy.

I’m picky what monster movies I get on Super 8 but honestly Toho, Hammer and Harryhausen are everything right about the genre to me.

Super 8 Apes

I was really happy to run into this Planet of the Apes Super 8 short recently, I have a small but growing collection of these titles but Apes is a biggie for me.

Super 8 films will always remind me of my local library and birthday parties, I always perked up when you saw a projector at your friend’s house.

The store had more than one but cash is limited, so I chose Beneath because it gave me nightmares as a kid!

I hope to track down the rest soon, maybe even some of them fancy color ones. A boy can dream!
