All these years, I’ve obsessed over hobby kits like these, never realizing the charm of the end result if painted by people with a bit of skill. These are wonderful!

AHI Spider-Man L’il Zips Buggy (eBay affiliate link) —

These little pushback rack toy cars are the same make as the McDonaldland ones from the 1980s; they are just fun toys that last a few days. Bonus points for that wonderful hand-drawn Spider-Man, which is slightly off-model but also loaded with character.

Marvel Comics The Thing Underoos (eBay affiliate link) —

It’s Clobber your Underwear time? Underoos have the greatest packaging design, and each hero secretly thinks of underwear. As a side note, if the Thing came at me like that, I would appreciate a change of britches. 

Knock Off Ninja (eBay affiliate link) —

My friend Courtney sent me this, as I love all things dimestore Ninja, and this one made me chuckle. It’s got gorgeous card art, but look at the depiction of poses the figure can’t obviously do. All it seems to be able to do is flail its arms wildly. As a bonus, you get oversized weapons he can’t hold. However, it all works when put together; it’s like an Ironic stew.

BooBerry Pen (eBay Afiliate Link) —

BooBerry was my favourite cereal as a kid, but it disappeared from shelves during the first grade. I was never the same, or I was fine, whatever helps. Anyhoo, I love running into the merch, although I rarely imbibe. This pen is delightful, this must have been a mail away offer as it’s pretty deluxe for a cereal prize but I’d love to be wrong.

The Mego 12″ Wonder Woman brought in the bucks for many a year while Sindy was attempting to get some Barbie magic in a different scale..

The concept behind Kenner’s baby wet and care are still available at toy stores to this day.

The Micronauts by Mego Corporation (released by Grand Toys) were an incredibly strong seller in Canada, the Eaton Center in downtown Toronto had a huge window display of them that year (If anyone had the sense to snap some pictures, please send them to me) The Micronauts coverage in this flier actually dwarfs Star Wars.

Space Lego started to appear around this time, one of the coolest toy lines ever IMO.

Capsela was an electronic building set with a space age flair..

Star Wars was distributed in Canada by Irwin Toys under the name “Kenner Canada” I sent many a proof of purchase to that Toronto address….

Matchbox had been selling the Mobile Action Command line of figures and vehicles for much of the 1970s, small wonder, at $1.99 per set they were a well-priced toy. The Spider-man racing set is one of the few superhero-related items in this flier.

I think it’s impossible to have grown up in the 1970’s suburbia and not know someone who had a Marx Green Machine or Big Wheel. I got to use my neighbour Gordon’s Green Machine once, so at least I can go to my final resting place knowing I hit the spin-out lever..

Classic board games like Sorry and Operation were joined by soon to be classics like Hungry, Hungry Hippos and Mr Mouth
