Little People Astronaut Set

I discovered this set in the 1977 Spiegel catalog and wow, I’m so smitten. Not only is it a fun knock-off of Fisher Price’s little People in a Space theme, but there is an amazing Star Trek reference in here. The Dinosaur idol has to be a take on “Vol” from the classic Star Trek episode “The Apple.” It’s an episode that got its own playset via the Mego Star Trek Mission to Gamma 6 toy.

Did anyone have this as a kid? I would have played with it for years.

If there is any testament to the power of Fisher-Price toys, it’s the fact that many of the items featured here had serious longevity. I had the three bottom items from the Fisher-Price play family series, namely the Farm, the parking garage and the ferry boat before I went to kindergarten and they’re still available for sale when I’m in the fifth grade. That my friends represent some serious staying power in the toy aisle.

The Fisher-Price Adventure People really hit their stride by this time. I had just about outgrown the series by then but I remember really wanting that submarine and squid. However, the siren call of sci-fi-related toys had won me over.

Another shot of the dreamy Space Lego boxes. My folks, for some reason just drew the line with this range. I had too much Lego according to them, so I had to settle for playing with the sets the weiner kid down the block had.

In1977, Fisher Price promoted the Little People Sesame Street Clubhouse by creating a gigantice model of it.


The happy memories I had playing with this toy are only slightly shadowed by the original Sesame Street set by FP. I look at this thing and it cheers me up, always will.

I need to know if this still exists somewhere, come on interwebs do your magic, we tracked down Oscar Goldman’s Briefcase in minutes, let’s do this! Also, I’m less than two hours away, if this is in somebody’s garage or attic, I would kill to come photograph it. Seriously, look at that giant Bert!

I still have a few of these Little People vehicles kicking around, this display is more awesome because it’s filled.

And of course, FP was all about the Muppet Show for a good long while, I do remember this header card from department stores back in the day.
FP’s Muppet show action figures are just killer, I had the Gonzo but I honestly never used the little puppet stick it came with.
I vaguely remember these, not something I was into mind you.
