The Ben Cooper Tattoo costume erroneously gets listed in click bait “Worst Halloween Costume” type lists but come on, he was a huge pop culture icon when we were growing up. This doesn’t come anywhere near the weirdness of “Father Murphy” and never will. I picked this up last year and trasure it.

HG Toys Puzzle- This may have been the piece that kicked off the collection. It’s also the first time I ever got recognized for this blog. I bought this at a sleepy toy show in upstate New York and when I bought it the dealer said “Are you the PlaidStallions guy?” which of course, surprised me.

Speaking of Action figures, I found these magnificent hand-painted beauties on Ebay, they’re for 12″ dolls and are perfect. I just haven’t gotten around to giving them bodies yet.

Finally, this vintage Iron On was given to me by a gent named Clark Bucher. It’s actually licensed and I had no idea it existed. I’m terrified to actually wear it as I’m fond of gravy but I am in awe of both the gesture and the item.

Other than the board game (why don’t i own that?), I think that’s it for Fantasy Island Merch I don’t have. Unless you have something I don’t, if that’s the case, please show me!

Been really under pressure to put the final touch on Rack Toys this month so i was coming up short with a Friday feature.

 Enter Kip and his amazing, newly displayed Ape collection to the rescue! I’ve seen plenty of Planet of the Apes and King Kong collections in my time but Kip seems to be a big fan of Apes in general.

Apes are such a part of the 1970s, it makes perfect sense to feature it here. See how many famous Simians you can see after the jump:

Planet of the Apes of course, features heavily in the collection but as you can see it’s a nice variety.

In front of the Mego and Action Apeman figures are some dollar store knock off Ape figures that came out around 2001.

These Sideshow Ape figures tempt me at every Toy Show.

While the custom Cornelius is nice, I am in love with the Japanese “Time of the Apes’ figures.

Hey! A Fisher Price Gorilla from the Adventure People Safari set, I still have mine!

The Multiple Toys Planet of Apes figures are nicely in the Front.

AHI wind up apes, a Mego Bend N Flex of Dr Zaius and I think I see a Comics Spain POTA Soldier Ape in there, this is way too a well rounded collection for me to get them all.

Ah, the remarkable plush Dr Z from Well Made Toys.

Cornelius and sock monkeys, wonderful.

John like a lot of folks I know loves his gill man and I don’t blame him! My favourites in this shot are the AHI bend Em Creature and the 9″ Remco verison. Neither of those are easy to find in such nice condition.

Hey that’s Gor King of the Terrons from Hasbro’s Super Joe line sneaking in there, he really fits in well actually.

Have I mentioned John has great taste? These Remco mini monsters prove it.

Godzilla! That diecast Godzilla from Bullmark is a wonderfully weird and fun piece, he’s a transformer!

The coffin bank interested me as a kid, never owned one though.

Here is the Crash Car today, assuming this is Jerry’s front lawn, I wish we were neighbours.

Who wouldn’t want to roll up to the office just once in this?

The crash car was featured in the (somewhat camp) classic film “Viva Knievel” which makes it just that much more awesome. Thanks for sharing Jerry, nice to know she’s in good hands.

I don’t know why so many of the AHI cards are found cut like that, why preserve something if you’re going to crop the top?

Here are some of the first few fun pics submitted for our 2010 Halloween Countdown Contest (which is still open BTW) these come to us from Jon of  Pop Culture Central and it’s him and his brother meeting the Frankenstein Monster at Universal stuidos in the 80s.

I rarely get sent classic Monster Appearances so it’s blast to see stuff like this.

 

My mailbox got filled a couple of weeks ago with pictures of one of the grooviest toy rooms I’ve ever seen and I’m happy to share.

The most awesome thing about Frank’s collection is the variety, I wouldn’t know what to say he does collect other than the 70s itself. Everywhere you look there’s little bits of childhood lurking around.

Those Dark Shadows kits are dreamy…

Remco monster figures and Aurora models? Frank has fabulous taste.
