Lincoln International Cowboy

This fellow arrived last week; it was an eBay auction spotted by my friend Rob Turner. Not only is he the product of Lincoln International (my favourite producer of Mego Knock-Offs), but he’s also a total mystery!

He’s the exact figure Lincoln produced under the “Thrill Seekers” name, a Mego Action Jackson KO. However, there is one slight problem: the Thrillseekers packaging doesn’t mention a cowboy outfit.

BTW the boots are the same as another Lincoln masterpiece, the infamous Mr. Rock!

So either there are more undiscovered Thrill Seekers out there, or there is possibly another Lincoln line we don’t know about, or some kid put this outfit on his Thrill Seeker figure. I hope it’s not the last one but it’s entirely possible. Mystery figures are the spice of this hobby to me, and I can’t wait to see what’s next. If anybody has any insight, please let me know. Of course, this came from the UK, which seems to have a special relationship with Lincoln.

Knock-Off King

When I started collecting Mego-scaled Knock-Offs, I knew there was at least one Elvis out there, but since then, I’ve been on my third bootleggy iteration of Mr. The Pelvis.

My latest, “The King,” is my most original and new favourite. He’s a 9″ doll with a unique head sculpt (which isn’t bad, all things considered), some truly interesting clothes, and a blow-moulded body in gold and red. It’s probably a recycled Ultra-Man bootleg.

While I’m probably certain that this was just done out of a complete lack of care, that extra bit of irony puts a perfect bow on why I love collecting this crap. What commemorates Elvis better than a hilariously badly made toy that doesn’t give his estate a penny?

This limited edition Mr. Rock key chain is now available. Featuring gorgeous artwork by Chris Franklin (from the Fire and Water Podcast network) showcasing Rock in the classic model kit pose, made famous by another alien.

Mr. Rock is a good luck charm for me; he is featured in both of my books, Rack Toys and Knock Offs and issue 3 of Toy-Ventures magazine. It’s my dream to own a carded one, but that may depend on whether that money tree I planted works out.
