My pal Matt has decided to share another cool monster rarity this Halloween season. This time, it’s the very rare 1970s Tuscany Studios Universal Wolf Man statue. Take it away Matt.

“Tuscany Studios Was based in Chicago, and produced statues similar to Esco, but instead of being made of chalkware, they were solid plaster. They stand a little bit taller than Esco statues, and are quite a bit heavier. They made statues of Dracula, the Wolfman, and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Jekyll and Hyde reversible statue is an interesting amalgam of different interpretations The Wolfman is my favorite of the lot. And fits in perfectly next to his Esco cousins.”

“Compared to their Esco brethren, Tuscany statues are harder to find. The legend goes that the owner of Tuscany Studios was a devout Catholic and brought his parish pastor to his studio. As the story goes, the priest was highly disapproving of the theme of monsters which seem to support devilry, and so the owner of Tuscany Studios stopped production on the monsters, and destroyed the molds, alas. To me, nothing says 1970s monsters quite like chalkware statues”

Very happy to showcase my latest video collaboration with Jason Lenzi, this month we tackle one of my passions, Monster action figures in the most appropriate month to do so.

The Tomland Famous Monsters of Legend are one of the rarest sets of monster toys in the world and in this volume we try to give you the basics on a unique line of action figures.

It wouldn’t be Halloween without me waxing poetic about my favourite monster toy line of all time, the Lincoln Monsters.


This year I came across one of my absolute grails, in the form of finding the 1976 Galoob toys catalog. Although Galoob was later known for licensed items  and things such as Micro Machines, 1976 saw them as more of an importer of Hong Kong novelties including items produced by Lincoln International.

Here they are featured among the Lincoln Action Soldier toys and other Rack Toy merchandise. Galoob was definitely the the company that got the following memorable Montgomery Ward’s catalog spread from 1976:

One of my favourite monster toys of all time is the Remco Monsterizer, even though it doesn’t a have ton of play value, it’s just such a nice and thoughtful prop.


I was happy to discover that mine actually worked the other day and it inspired me to make this little video short all about it. Special thanks to my ever patient assistant, my daughter for her hand modelling. Hope you enjoy it!
