I have a real love for this UK cartoon. Mainly because TVO aired it before Doctor Who, but also because it was a weird show. The Wisp was voiced by Kenneth Williams from the “Carry On” films, and you always feel like there’s an adult joke buried somewhere. Also, I can do a mean Kenneth Williams impersonation. I’m no longer invited to parties BECAUSE MY FRIENDS ARE ALL JEALOUS OF MY TALENT!

Superman Puzzle (sponsored link)

As an unwritten rule, I tend to gravitate towards 60s-90s pop culture on these posts, but Superman is one of the GOATs of licensing. I love this wonderful depiction of Superman taking a pair of insurance salesmen out for a toot.

Moody Rudy (sponsored link) —

I’ve never heard of this toy nor the company itself but I sure know it’s creator. Art Cloaky created “Gumby and Pokey” and “Davey and Golaith” both shows I watched on “The Commander Tom Show” as a kid.  I love that the package says tongue and teeth included, that’s great value. I’m going to assume the estate of Clarke Gable burned this company to the ground.

Hasbro Inhumanoids Store Display (sponsored link)

I don’t collect this toy line, but I was a teenager when it came out, and I did kind of love it, especially the cartoon, which was so bonkers at the time. I wondered if anyone was paying attention.

Looking back now, I can see what appealed to me: they’re Shogun Warrior-sized Kaiju and that, my friends, spells fun. Not literally, of course but GaiKing would have kicked their asses.

Martin Landau’s collection of Sybil Danning Space:1999 VHS movies (sponsored link)

Ok, this is going to be a long story, but it’s a good one.

In the mid-1980s, two of the ITC Super Space Theatre “films” (which were old TV series repackaged as ersatz movies) were distributed under the banner of Sybil Danning’s Adventure Video. These tapes mainly featured forgotten genre movies, with host segments by Danning herself, clad in sexy outfits, and dialogue that included a bit of innuendo. 

This was essentially in response to the Elvira-hosted tapes, which were selling like hotcakes. Well, Martin Landau heard about it and summoned his lawyer, who requested samples and then sued. The Landau/Bain camp felt that the whole thing disrespected Space: 1999. I have to admit, the prints aren’t great.  The tapes were yanked from distribution, making copies harder to find (trust me, I know).

This is not only the set Landau received, but it also includes a letter to his lawyer. So it’s quite a piece of history.

It also contains the CBS FOX release of Destination Moonbase Alpha, which I don’t think was subject to any legal action. It was a well done release, I still have my copy!

Children’s Elvira Halloween Costome (eBay Link)-

I think this may be the first one of these I’ve ever seen for sale, I only recently found out it got made. Imagineering had a licensing deal with Elvira in 1990 and made oodles of merchandise including this. Dressing a little kid as Elvira was not well received and this thing is HELLA rare. That’s right, I swore.

Estrella Falcon Samurai Warrior (eBay Link)–

I am obsessed with Falcon, Brazil’s version of GI Joe, mainly because they are still doing such cool things unlike Hasbro. Case in point is this Samurai set which is just mind blowing, I mainly focus on their Science Fiction characters but this is tempting.

A set of Popy World Hero Kamen Rider figure (eBay Link)-

I love Popy World Heroes (video below) and a couple of years ago, I would have flipped over this set of Kamen Rider characters. No offense to Ultra-Man but Kamen Rider is my hero.

Canada’s Wonderland Viewmasters (eBay Link)–

I grew up in Southern Ontario and wow, was Wonderland a big deal when it opened! I saw the Ramones there, so yeah, I was excited to find out this was a thing.

Lakeside Superhero Drawing Desk (eBay Link)-

My sister had the Disney version of this (which I ruined by drawing right on it) but I always wanted this one. I’d use it right now!

Instead of looking at a single toy, I thought I’d share my collection of merchandise from the 1970s tv classic “Kung Fu”. There wasn’t a ton of merchandise for the show but there is plenty of neat stuff like lunchboxes, figurines, viewmasters, and even comics!

Probably my most favourite of all Krofft shows would be Land of the Lost, I never missed it and it often scared the hell out of me.


It was also one of the most heavily merchandised Krofft shows ever made, above is the Safari Shooter one of the many rack toys made.

 

This Sleestak Jiggler produced by Ben Cooper is among my favourite toy possessions. I have no idea why there haven’t been more Sleestak toys.

No greater evidence of the show’s popularity than the fact that viewmaster released two sets of reels for the show, one of the first season and a second for the “Uncle Jack” year.

Continuing my love for all thing Krofft, I have always been super fond of Dr. Shrinker. I probably like “Far Out Space Nuts” a l’il bit more but it doesn’t seem to have much merchandise so Shrinker it is…


Harmony had the license to make rack toys from all the Krofft Super Show and seemed to have fun with this show.

I was maybe a little too excited to get this magnifying glass a couple of years ago.

Another puzzle that I had no idea existed that i now need to own. Curse you HG Toys!

I nabbed these Dr Shrinker/Wonderbug (another favourite of mine) Viewmasters at a flea market this summer for ten bucks, total victory!


There is a Dr Shrinker Halloween costume but I can’t seem to find right but will post to the Facebook page when I find it.

That’s the Matchbox Fighting Furies toy display, for those not in the know, they were a killer series of pirate action figures. One of these days I’ll get around to doing a gallery on them.
That’s the AMT show room and all those sweet, sweet Star Trek Model kits. I can’t tell you how many of those I ruined with my impatience and lack of talent.Here is the 1975 AMT Model Catalog
Casper visits the viewmaster booth, I can see Superfriends giftsets behind the sales reps. That sad looking Casper suit was used in the comics for a series of ads, I can see his hands!
Schaper’s Super Toe football is something I haven’t really touched on here yet, they seem to have gone all out with their display.
