I don’t think I’ve ever seen this toy before, it reminds me of the “rope ladder” I tried to buy from one those “Ninja” magazines in the early 80s. My treehouse ladder was a fence when I was a kid…

I love this, although I don’t remember Green Lantern appearing on the Super Friends, nor any of those villains at the time. If I saw this as a kid, I’d need to know all those villains’ names right away, that would have bugged me.

My memories of America’s bicentennial are mainly based on the Toy Industry magazines my dad subscribed to in the 1970s. I had just started reading. There were numerous articles about how risky it was to create merchandise based on it, as it would date so quickly. I think that’s why so many lower-cost rack toys like this seemed to be the order of the day.

I also bought the Bicentennial DC treasury edition with Superman on the cover, which had nothing to do with Superman inside. As a Canadian, I felt quite hosed.

Black Hole Pencil Holders (eBay Link)

I don’t think it’s a secret I’m obsessed with these. A Canadian Cereal premium that celebrated the Black Hole’s True stars. I have complete sets but always buy them when I find them. Check out my video about these here.

Space:1999 Commander Koenig (eBay Link)

These 70s figural banks are amazing, I have the Apes ones but still need a Commander Koenig. The seller also has some amazing Space:1999 rack toys as well, worth checking out.

Lincoln International Mr Rock minus head (eBay Link) –

I know this isn’t a complete figure by any means but Mr. Rock is the rolls royce of Knock-Off action figures and well this is tough stuff. Also, if you win this, let me help you in tracking down a reproduction head. I probably know a guy…

Weird Australian Star Trek Towel (eBay Link) –

My good friend Corey sent this to me, and while I’m no stranger to Star Trek towels, this one is hypnotic in its strangeness. It looks like a Ugandan movie poster; I mean that as a compliment.

Slim Goodbody’s Galactic Health Adventure (eBay Link)–

Full confession, as a kid, I was so starved for Superheroes for a brief while I regularly tuned into Slim Goodbody episodes. It never once motivated me to eat celery but I love him unironically. I’m stupid enough to try and license an action figure too, try and stop me!

Today is all about Star Trek Towels!

So this morning I had a wonderful email containing photos of my pal Corey’s amazing collection of vintage Star Trek towels.

I’ll be honest, I rarely thought of towels as a collectible (ok, I own like three) but now these are all I can think about.

Disclaimer: I may sound like I’m mocking these in my comments but know that I’ve searched “Star Trek Towel” on Ebay twice today, so I’m a total fraud.

Of all of these, I think this is my favourite, mostly because it’s the awesome sauce Mr Spock model kit in towel form! How did i live without this?

To visit Strange New Worlds: I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that Deforest Kelly or William Shatner never saw this.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, Mr Spock was kind of the big draw when it came to these things.

There are two missing from the set, a shot of Kirk and Spock (which looks a lot like the first cover of Starlog) and the Enterprise fighting a Klingon ship, so the Shat really got the shaft in all of this.

That’s the matte painting from “Where no man has gone before” I believe.

Peace, Live Long and Prosper: I assume this is a shot of Spock on vacation, visiting the castles on Rigel VII, a guy can’t enough hobbies.
