Remco Toys was in tenth year of being under the ownership of Azrak Hamway toys  and 1985 finds them having a wonderful year of creating some memorable lines that aped the popular themes of the decade.

This fantastic catalog covers such great lines like Conan the Barbarian, The Mighty Crusaders, Zybots, Ninjas, Warlord and the Pirates of the Galaxseas just to name a few.

It’s a fun trip into lower cost and rack toys items, won’t you please enjoy the 1985 Remco Toys Catalog?

Remco did a whole page on these guys in ’85 but the comics these guys were based on in the “Archie Adventure Series” would cease publication by September of that year. Best I can tell a small amount of these toys were produced and sold at clearance.


I’ve had luck over the past 17 years of looking to find a tiny handful of these items so I honestly believe they all  got made.


 

It’s interesting that the Shield parachutist is pictured here but not the Web, I know that one got made. The Web and the villian The Sting are the only characters I’ve ever seen physical merchandise of. I still think the Shield stuff got made however.

I’ve never seen the walkie talkies but another collector has confirmed the water pistols and I have the Web Stunt Cycle, so the Sting bike is out there. Note the use of the Fox and Brain Emperor on the walkie talkies.

There is no greater time in a toy collector’s journey then when they find that something that they thought existed, actually does.

Well I guess, finding it for a dollar would trump that but no such luck here. After decades of searching I have found my white whale, the very last produced Parachutist figures by Remco/AHI, The Mighty Crusaders.

I present you with the Web parachutist figure, as you can see he’s “Good”, which likely means they also made the “Evil” character which seems to be the Sting.

While the Shield is on the package, the only Remco/AHI Rack Toys I have ever found feature the Web or the Sting. There is a Web/Sting Helicopter set, both Motorcycles are known to exist (mine is pictured below) and I know someone who has the Sting water gun.

The figure itself is the standard AHI parachute figure we knew and love for the 70s and early 80s.

I think it’s fair to say that most of the Mighty Crusaders Rack Toys pictured on the back of the card got made albeit in miniscule quantities.

The back of this card features a price sticker from Sears which surprises me, I would have thought they were something only found in discount chains.

I’m always excited to find something I didn’t know existed because that just means there is a possibility more toys exist, just waiting to be found.

It’s been a while since I’ve found a Rack Toy that excites me (that sounds weird) but this week I totally have. These toys come from Remco/AHI and are as I can figure, the last line of these kind of licensed affairs that AHI was so known for in the 70s and 80s. 


Mighty Crusaders are a superhero team owned by Archie Comics, they have a great lineage but an awfully sporadic publishing history since the Golden Age. During the early 80s, they had a pretty decent attempt at a revival which spawned licensed toys from Remco.


While the Remco Mighty Crusaders action figure line is fairly commonly found, these toys must have been produced in much lower numbers.  I’m still not positive what got made and didn’t . 



Prior to this discovery, the only Rack Toys for the Mighty Crusaders I could confirm were these helicopters.

The back of the package suggests that Mighty Crusaders got the same treatment that Batman and Planet of the Apes did in the mid seventies with helicopters, Motorcycles and (gasp!) Parachute figures. (If you have one please email me, even if it’s not for sale!)

A really nice shot of “The Web” figure, I’m glad that I keep running into one of my favourite characters when I do find this stuff.
