Pod Stallions 127: Badder than old King Kong

There are Giants, and there are behemoths and monsters galore, but there’s only ONE King Kong. Well, technically, there’s one that’s been done and recycled in various ways, and as episode one for October ‘25 we celebrate the biggest ape of all.

A misunderstood creature who basically likes the ladies and wants to be left alone, Kong has loomed large since first leaving Skull Island in 1933, and we cover all the sequels, remakes, Kaiju and cartoon versions in the newest Pod Stallions.

JAWS 3D is a guilty pleasure my wife and I both share; it’s just the perfect mix of schlock for us. If it’s on TV, we have to watch it, just like our “Goodfellas” rule. Seeing that Japan has recognized this film’s true greatness is another reason I want to move there.

Buck Rogers Game from Brazil (sponsored link) —

I have never seen this toy before. I think the most interesting thing about it is how Joseph Wiseman is so predominant on the packaging. Wiseman’s Draco was largely cut out of the film and only mentioned in the series, so it’s interesting that they promoted him as the big bad. I also just found out he was Canadian.

Imperial Toys Clash of the Movie Monsters Set (sponsored link) —

Man, this toy gives me issues. On the one hand, the Imperial Universal Monsters might be well remembered by kids who have them, but I’ve always kind of hated them. I grew up with Lincoln Monsters, which I will admit were shoddily made, but I just found these clunky things depressing. 

On the other hand, nothing but sincere love for Imperial Kong and Godzilla, OMG! 

And then, you have to factor in how freaking awesome an idea this whole thing is. If I had seen this as a kid, it would have given me a panic attack about how to convince my mum to buy it for me.

Pod Stallions 126: Who Mourns for Doctor Who?

We know what you’re thinking. With a headline like that, we’re bound to be Who-bashing all episode, right? (You might also be thinking, ‘bout time they showed up!).

Au contrair, my friends. Doctor Who is one of the many things that brought us together as friends, and is something we love deeply. With recent news reports and all the online chatter about the current state of New Who (still considered ‘new’ after a 20-year return!) and its possible exit, it felt like a good time and good subject to explore on our return from hiatus.

So close the door, hit the Tardis controls from ‘Way Back’ to ‘Present Day’ and prepare to walk in eternity as we give our two pence on all that’s gone down and up with everyone’s favourite Time Lord.

Just remember to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow before you leave
