I think this Kentucky Fried Chicken play set is one of the more charming toy concepts I’ve seen in a while.

I’d also like to say I want that little Col. Sanders more than air currently.

I guess this was even TV advertised, I certainly don’t remember the commercials.

Pod Stallions 43: Top Ten Things We Miss about the 1970s

Our website turns 10 this month so we begin by discussing it’s origins and why it came to be. With the topic already being nostalgia, we thought it would be fun to talk about the top ten thing we miss about the 1970s.

This is not a “things were better in our day” type discussion (We like Ebay and YouTube just fine thank you very much) but more about the certain rituals, tastes, establishments and items that sadly, no longer have a place in our modern world.

Topics range from Saturday morning TV to local toy stores, full comic book racks everywhere you looked, ice cream men on bicycles, long gone fast foods, Jason’s crush on Rhoda Morgensten (and her mom!), Network Stars Battling, Heroes World adverts, colorful home decor and of course, wish books.

Be careful with episode 43 because the filling is hot!

Live Long and Are You Going to Finish Your Fries?

I kind of went “primal geek” this past weekend when I took my kids to Burger King. The current Star Trek (well deserved) movie hype and promotion harkens back to when I was a lad and McDonalds ran their Star Trek Happy Meals. Somehow I conned my Mum into going more than once during that period (which was rare) and just went Trek mad with this promotion.
You can click on the boxes to get a good look at the art, truly these are Happy Meals. I don’t even really like fast food much anymore but these things are great memories of when I did. Even though the Motion Picture ended up kind of boring, I was still into it, devouring the Mego Toys, reading the cool Marvel comic, good times.

And of course, each meal included a prize, my children got way cool talking toys over the weekend ( I never tired of hearing “kirk to Enterprise” on the 4 hour road trip the next day) but I really loved this cheap-o wrist communicator dealie, I had fun with it for a whole afternoon. This one won’t fit me, so I’ll leave it in the package.

I have more happy meal boxes, one of these days I’ll make a gallery.

A Bright Future in Sales

One has to wonder if there was anyone who grew up loving this Burger King Playset and then later ended up working at a real Burger King. I know I used to pretend I had a variety store as a kid and eventually ended up a register monkey for a couple of years. I never calculated the drunk and crazy people at that tender age….
