A Man called Sloane Crew Jacket (eBay Link) —

As listeners of our Podcast might know, I am obsessed with the TV series “A Man Called Sloan.” It was a late 70s spy series that had some camp value, very much like Buck Rogers. I really want this but I’m not sure what I’d do with it. I certainly couldn’t wear it as it doesn’t come in “extra long torso.”

Burger King Hangers (eBay Link) –

I had to giggle at these; I’m not sure why they thought kids would want hangers for their room, especially one featuring the Duke of Doubt. The Duke was/is terrifying, probably why they phased him out. But seriously? Hangers? Why not a lint brush? Pocket protector? This is the fast food equiviliant of those sweaters my aunt bought me for the entirety of the 1980s. I got a powder blue V-neck for a decade; I’ve never said “You really shouldn’t have” with more meaning in my life.

Planet of the Apes Silly Soap (eBay Link) —

I used to own this, but it started seeping out like this, and well, I have seen far too many horror movies to keep it.

LJN Road Stars Space:1999 diecast vehicle set (Ebay Link) The Space:1999 Eagle is my favourite spaceship of all time and I love the charm of the LJN road stars. Especially because they also made the moon buggy and Captain Zantor’s ship (Which makes it Christopher Lee’s ship). This boxed set is plenty rare and will go way beyond my means but I love looking at it.

Dr. Strange Halloween Costume (eBay Link)– Dr. Strange rarely got merchandise when we were kids, he was definitely not an “A-Lister” that movies have made him today. In 1980, Ben Cooper not only made him a costume but a Jiggler. I’m really not sure why, the TV movie had come and gone. I do love how angry he appears though.

Flying Nun Rack Toy (eBay Link):

Future generations really need to know that yes, there was a TV show about a nun whose hat made her fly. I was there and sometimes, I doubt this construct. Without knowledge, it could happen again!

Mr. Spock Berwick (ebay link)

Well, it’s October, so I think it’s cool to do two costumes this week, especially when one is from England. Berwick made a lot of cool stuff in the 70s like Costumes for Doctor Who and Captain Britain. Not enough attention is given to this.

Japanese McCloud Books- 5 Awesome Things on eBay this week

McCloud novels from Japan (ebay link)– I mostly remember McCloud during a period of unemployment in my 20s when the Mystery movie reruns on A&E were something of a ritual for me. I’m surprised to find out the show enjoyed popularity and merchandise in Japan, wait, no I’m not.

Berwick’s main items seem to be role play such as their line of play suits and games. 1978 saw the introduction of a toy called “Mudd” which seems similiar to slime and some really oddball Batman items.

I was scanning the catalog from a UK company called Berwick when I came upon this neat-o Tom Baker Doctor Who play costume and I thought it deserved blog attention.Like a lot of 70’s Canadian kids, I was watching Doctor Who on TVO from the time I could talk. The first con I attended was a Who one at the tender age of 15, so I have a real soft spot for vintage Who merchandise.I have to give Berwick props for not putting the Doctor’s face and the Tardis largely on the smock as Ben Cooper would have likely done.
