Utilitizing Batman's Utility belt concept for other characters had been a Remco staple for years and it sold well despite some of the characters having no need for such devices. Remco was finally giving Superman his due in 1980 with the announcement of an upcoming belt, the results were pretty predicatable, strange sun glasses, a watch and a comminucator. Not much different from some of the items from the last Superman movie actually.
