\nWelcome to a new feature on PlaidStallions, the
\nspotlight, which will revolve around items such as toys, books and DVDs
\navailable today that give that retro vibe to me.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nI\u2019m hesitant to call them reviews, mostly because I personally don\u2019t think action
\nfigure criticism is something I want to do. If I like something, I\u2019ll post
\npictures and give reasons why I enjoy it and you make up your own mind up whether
\nit\u2019s right for you or not.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nOur first spotlight subject is the latest thing to hit
\nmy doorstep, the ZICA Six Million Dollar man action figures. Read it after the jump:<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nLike a lot of 70s kids, I spent many a summer day
\nrunning slowly and making sounds as I did it, Steve Austin was my first
\nsuperhero. While, I absolutely loved the Kenner toy line as a boy, I do
\nremember not loving the fact that Steve couldn\u2019t hang out with General Urko and
\nRobin.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nIt seems I wasn\u2019t alone in this because the past few
\nyears have seen all kind of toy wrongs being righted; Bif Bang Pow has beenreleasing Six Million Dollar Man<\/a> and other 70s properties in Mego scale, much
\nto my delight.<\/p>\n

The 3 \u00be\u201d retro revolution began last year with Super 7\u2019s awesome Alien series<\/a>
\nand ZICA announced their Six Million Dollar Man line quite quickly after. Both
\nfall into the category of \u201cKenner should have made these!\u201d and it seems that if
\nyou love the format, you\u2019re in for a great 2014<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nWhile I\u2019m not a big Alien fan, the mad genius behind a
\nlot of that (Hi Frank!) put so much care into making you believe it was
\nproduced in 1979 that they had my money on sheer principle.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n The folks at
\nZica had the advantage just because they had me at on the onset but I am happy
\nto say, they didn\u2019t let me down.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\nThe figures are sculpted in a retro Kenner style,
\nwhile crude, they perfectly encapsulate what the figures would have looked like
\nin 1978, that\u2019s the key here. Also, the likeness is terrific, Steve captures
\nLee Majors simply and Bigfoot looks like the original Kenner figure, shrunk
\ndown in size. Perfect!<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n
\n<\/a><\/div>\n
\nThe packaging closely emulates a Kenner action figure
\npackage, which pretty much became an industry standard size in 1979. The art
\nwork is great and highly reminiscent of the Kenner SMDM artwork, though it has
\nbeen clearly recreated. It would have been easy to use photos but the folks at
\nZICA chose to hire an illustrator, another lost art of toy packaging.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
\n<\/div>\n

\nI normally have no bones about sending modern toy
\npackaging to the recycle box but these gave me pause. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/div>\n
\nThere are three figures in the set, Steve Austin,  Big Foot and a variant blue track suited
\nSteve. That variant actually happened in the Kenner day, so it\u2019s so toy nerdy I
\nthink it\u2019s great. I\u2019ve decided to keep that Steve carded, so it\u2019s win\/win.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

\nThe world’s greatest heroes finally meet!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
\nZica is promising four more figures in the set, I can honestly say that
\nI\u2019m on board and hope for more from them in the future. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
