Message from Space Sticker Album (sponsored link) —

So this sticker book is based off the “Message from Space” TV Spin Off “Galactic Wars: which did get syndicated to other countries and spawning merch. When I was in the 6th grade, a kid from my class went to South America and brought back tons of these cards. They blew my mind. I’d seen “Message from Space,” but there were Apes and other aliens on these cards, nowhere to be seen in the movie. I actually bought the cards from him and still have a couple. It’s so cool to see the booklet finally.

Also, there was a dubbed compilation movie called “Sword of the Space Ark” or “Space Ninjas”. If you have a copy, please get in touch with me as I would really like to watch it.

Hal Needham Stuntman Playset by Gabriel Toys (sponsored link)

This is a truly innovative toy concept from the mid-1970s, a doll based on the legendary stuntman Hal Needham. This allowed kids to do real stunt work. Obviously, this set saw some play, as Hal’s head came off, which is probably not something that happened to the real guy.

As a Canadian kid, I thrilled to the Adventures of the Mighty Hercules and his idiot sidekick, Newton, his idiot sidekick, Newton.  (if you get that joke you are cool) I am blown away that this show had any popularity in Japan but now this is all I can think of.

Spider-Man Super Klobbers by AHI (sponsored link)

I’m not surprised that AHI chose to rip off Socker Boppers; they sold a lot of inflatable toys and well, they had the Spider-Man license. What’s surprising is how rare these are, I guess they did not take off.

Big Jim Cipsa Kid Acero Lobomovil (sponsored link) 

This vehicle was known as “The Beast” in the USA and was the first vehicle available for the P.A.C.K toys, mainly because it’s a repainted Camper. In Mexico, they didn’t have the same characters so they drew over the (GLORIOUS!) Jack Kirby’s art and turned them into bad Guy Garfio and Good guy Hombe Bionico. I love this so much but this freaking thing is such a space killer. Ugh, this is going to bug me….

Amazing Bullmark Mecha Godzilla store display (sponsored link) ––

I’ve never seen these toys before but I wish I had seen them as a kid. That’s probably my favourite Godzilla movie of all time, and well, I like clear toys.

MASH Latrine Playset by Zee Toys (Sponsored Link) ––

So yeah, they made the toilets from MASH as a toy, a playset of sorts. You can set up the army man and well, make fart sounds all afternoon. When you factor in that this was aimed at boys in the third grade, you realize the people at Zee Toys may not have been stupid.

As a former 8-year-old boy, this would have been at least a fun afternoon.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it, but I’m awfully fond of this whole Planet of the Apes nonsense the kids are into. I really like the oddball items, probably because I’ve forbidden myself to buy them.  Although I’d look pretty bad ass in this.

These things were like currency when I was kid, my parents weren’t drinkers so getting these was rare. As a kid, they were the perfect scale for Mego figures and hey, who didn’t want swords for your action figures?

While I’ve seen the box for this thing before, I never realized how cool the toy is. The box is that same Sandy Frank licensing shot we’ve seen before but the target set itself is of Zoltar!

Zoltar, that amazing gender bending Glam rock villain didn’t get onto a lot of merchandise and we must celebrate it.

I’ve just returned from my favourite toy convention of all time, Mego Meet and please excuse the sleepy voice but I haven’t had much sleep!

I recently found a 1978 copy of Starlog magazine from Japan, I find it adorable how little Star Wars merchandise there is but this is very, very early in the game.

Of particular note is the infamous “Archive Minatures” which I’ve never actually seen before. These little figures (called “dolls” in the ad) were cranked out super quick but Lucas very quickly unleashed “Darth CeaseandDesist”.

Yup, for a very short time if you like Star Wars and figures this was the only game in town. They’re kind of charming to be honest…
