I owe this incredibly strange bit of merchandise to my pal Corey, who recent acquired it. A Japanese publication which seems to combine Space:1999 stories with Columbo? I fail to see the connection but also am happy it exists.

Neither of us can read what’s going on inside and the book isn’t littered with illustrations. I’m going to assume that at no time does Columbo solve a murder on Moonbase Alpha because that would be so wonderfully batshit crazy.

Our latest show is a tribute to one of our favourite actors and certainly somebody that requires no introduction to any child of the 1970s.

Episode 47 is all about Roddy McDowall, although we purposely sidestep Planet of the Apes, mostly because we do whole shows on that topic any way and also because the guy had a pretty incredible career on top of being Galen/Cornelius/Caesar.

We chat his various television series like Tales of the Gold Monkey and Fantastic Journey and his incredible amount of guest spots on shows like Batman, Columbo, Quantum Leap and even Pinkey and the Brain.

And of course, we discuss films like Fright Night, The Black Hole and the Legend of Hell House among others.

Episode 20 is inexplicably a Quinn Martin Production and has us exploring the phenom of 70s detective shows and also has us kind of trying to figure what qualifies as a detective show (we don’t quite see eye to eye). 

Regardless, as children we sure did watch a lot of people getting murdered. We discuss the Columbos, Rockfords, MacMillans and Wives,  Banaceks and Cannons of our childhood, the merchandising magic of Kojak and Starsky and Hutch.


We also go way, way off track, with discussions about Jamie Farr and Three Stooges, I’m sorry.


Episode 20 will hopefully have you asking “Just one more thing”
