This month’s show starts off with Jason talking
a little bit about his BAFTA Flash Gordon event but then segways into the works
of Irwin Allen, primarily his TV work of the 1960s.

Voyage to the Bottom
of the Sea, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants and Time Tunnel as well as the
busted pilot “City Beneath the Sea” and “The Man from the 25th
Century”.

Along the way we
talk about Aurora Model Kits, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Nathan Juran,
Gerry Anderson, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Space Academy and Brian’s
preoccupation with Amazon Women on the Moon.

Pod Stallions Epsiode 27b: The Krofft Super Show (Part 2)

Seeing as we were unceremoniously cut off from finishing last month’s show, Jason and myself decided to cut a “mini-sode” in addition to our regular show (which debuts next Friday) to finish what we started.

We pick up on “Pink Lady and Jeff” talk about the Bay City Rollers, briefly touch on DC Follies and the 1991 Land of the Lost Remake ending on the new Electra Woman and Dyna girl announcement. It’s short and sweet but it’s jam packed!

Costume Spotlight: Goldar from Space Giants

There is nothing I love more than Halloween Costumes based on obscure properties and brother does this fit the bill. Space Giants was a 60’s Japanese TV series that ran in syndication until the late 70s. This outfit was actually produced towards in the tail end most likely due to a renewed interest in science fiction due to Star Wars.

This is the first costume I’ve seen where the character has to explain who he is.

PodStallions #15: Rod Serling

This month’s show is a celebration of Television icon Rod Serling and is exploration of his career and legacy. Even though he passed away in the mid 1970s, he had an impact on pop culture that is still strongly felt today.

Episode 15 talks about his life, the Twilight Zone and his career after that including Planet of the Apes, the Zero Hour, Night Gallery, Phantom of the Paradise and something called Fantasy Park.

The Gold Key Twilight Zone comics Brian discussed ran for 17 years!
Rod Serling’s intro to Phantom of the Paradise is haunting and effective.
Jason’s company Bif Bang Pow! has created an amazing array of Twilight Zone merchandise.
Serling’s contribution to the Planet of the Apes script is possibly one of the most memorable scenes in SF cinema.
Paul Williams is doing quite well these days.
When syndicated, episodes of Night Gallery were mingled with this unrelated series starring Gary Collins to increase the offering to 100 episodes.

R.I.P Uncle Bobby

I just heard the sad news that Bobby Ash aka Uncle Bobby passed away on May 20th. For nearly twenty years he was the host of the “Uncle Bobby Show” (later renamed Kids Corner) on CTV. The above autographed picture is from my collection, I met Bobby at a mall in ’74, probably my first celebrity encounter. Apparently the show didn’t pay well and Bobby was also a school bus driver and did children’s parties to make ends meet.It was your typical kids variety show with magicians, hippies with guitars, a singing policeman (whose son I befriended in high school), puppets, a lady who played with clay and Bimbo the Birthday the Clown, a wooden clown who had a slight creep factor.
