From a 1984 Toy Industry publication, we have this excellent ad for Street Hawk, which ABC was banking on being the next Knight Rider (narrator: “It wasn’t.”) However, I tuned in every week, and so did a lot of kids, so we mourned some of the cool toys they had in the pipeline. Remco Toys was in tenth year of being under the ownership of Azrak Hamway toys  and 1985 finds them having a wonderful year of creating some memorable lines that aped the popular themes of the decade.

This fantastic catalog covers such great lines like Conan the Barbarian, The Mighty Crusaders, Zybots, Ninjas, Warlord and the Pirates of the Galaxseas just to name a few.

Mall of Justice is a love
letter to the sensational personal appearances of our comic book, TV, movie and
toy icons during the 1970s and 80s.

Whether it’s Adam West at a
car show, He-Man at a Toys R Us opening or an ersatz Chewbacca at a stereo
store, Mall of Justice melds vintage photos with childhood recollection of these epic meetings.

While I will design and
eventually publish the book (via PlaidStallions Press), it’s a project we can all get involved with!

How you can get involved:
I’m looking for your photos and your recollections! Even if you’ve submitted
them to the site before, I would likely need higher resolution and I’d want to
talk to you.

What am i looking for:

Appearances of costumed characters during the 1970s and 80s, be they from comicbooks (Batman, the Hulk) , cartoons (, toy lines (Masters of the Universe, GI
Joe
)  or movies (Planet of the Apes,Star Wars
) , a date and place and a description of how you felt meeting theseiconic characters. Did you think they were real?

Does it have to
specifically be in a mall:

HECK NO! Car shows, county fairs, grocery stores, heck I’d
even accept birthday party shots. It’s all fair game.

Even though I personally was a teenager at the time, I fondly remember stocking a toy aisle full of a lot the things in this Child World Toy Flyer from 1985.

 This piece is chock full of happy memories for 80s kids from the popular Care Bears, Go Bots and He-Man to the more forgotten toys like the Hugga Bunch, Zybots and Robotix, there is a lot to love.

The original mini series were a ratings smash, so by the time a weekly series rolled around (Johnson bailed by this point) it made sense that toy makers were clamouring to get themselves some lizards. Sadly, the series was less than spectacular and LJN didn’t roll out their entire V line for 1985 (save for the 12″ doll). Below is a sad glimpse of what might have been.
