My family had an old calculator we had to plug in as well. Looked just like that only a bit bigger. The buttons "clicked" when you pushed them and it had bright red numbers.

I had one very similar to this just a few years later – the LED readout was so bright that, if you entered in 88888888, you could read by the light while under the covers.
