I actually had one, and it was, indeed, pre- remake. For a simple cardboard playset, I had hours and hours of fun with that thing.

I realize that this post is many years after the fact, but I can confirm that this was released during the 1970s, I'll say mid-70s as I had this as a child. I was born in 1971 and the Empire state building was pretty much as tall me, so I would have been 5 or 6 at least when I received it on a Christmas morning.

It's incredibly close to the Earthquake Tower, actually, but not quite the same. Uncanny!

If this dates to the period right before the 1976 remake came out (and was expected to be a hit) surely this being based on the original film isn't all that perplexing? Delaurentis would have controlled any use of distinctive elements from his version such as the World Trade Center or jet fighters…but the playset makers could use the Empire State Building and biplanes without fear that David O. Selznick would rise from the grave to sue them.
