In the early 1980s, ITC Entertainment took their back catalog of (mainly) Gerry Anderson TV programs and edited them into a series of Television movies for the growing Cable TV market.
Dubbed "Super Space Theatre" the 14 movies were culled together from episodes of "Space:1999", "UFO", "Thunderbirds", "Stingray", "Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons" and the non Anderson property "The Champions" . This package of (sometimes curiously edited) films was highly influential on yours truly, I ruined my sleep pattern trying to watch all of these as a ten year old and in turn, started to seek out merchandise based on these forgotten shows.
This site owes a great debt to the wonderful recycling of Super Space Theatre, so this sales kit containing sell sheets for all the films is truly a grail for me . Hope you enjoy!
Destination Moonbase Alpha was culled from the second season two parter called "The Bringers of Wonder" and as a result, is the most cohesive of the 1999, it has new narration explaining it's the year 2100. It's also the first one of these TV movies I saw as a kid and the first movie I ever purchased on VHS.
And I still own it! No surprise there.
Journey through the Black Sun is a culmination of "Black Sun" and "Collision Course", not much tampering with this one . If you have a VHS of this, I'd like to purchase it from you. I'll even take BETA.
.
Alien Attack is the pilot for Space:1999 "Breakaway" and the episode "War Games" with some weird newly filmed scenes added to explain the story. Below are the "Lunar Commission" scenes made for this movie in the early 1980s:
The future is turtlenecks apparently....
Sybil Danning Introduced Alien Attack in a sexy costume in this VHS release, I've heard rumours that the Landau/Bains were not pleased.
Cosmic Princess was the season 2 opener "The Metamorph" and the episode "Space Warp", there is some new dubbing added to this one to connect the stories. If you have this on VHS, I need it, sell it to me please?
.
Invasion UFO is my personal favourite of the package, it takes from a number of episodes of the series and well, it's not super coherant but I love it. Below are the credits, you may recognize the theme.
Took me twenty years but I have it on VHS and Beta, BLu Ray and Japanese Laser Disk. There is a poster for this, if you have it EMAIL ME PLEASE!!!!!
Next to 1999, Thunderbirds got the most movies (but oddly neither of their theatrical releases are included), the series longer episodes made for better TV movie fare I guess....
The computer generated title sequence for this movie featured the Eagles and Hawks from Space:1999.
Each Stingray TV movie featured four episodes of the classic series
Somebody at ITC added really bad laser effects every time Stingray used it's weapons, it did not improve the show....
.
Like Stingray, each Captain Scarlet TV movie featured four episodes of the classic series
.
Joe 90 wasn't as big a hit as other Anderson Supermarionation productions and only got one TV movie.
The Champions wasn't an Anderson production (but it was an ITC production), the story of secret agents who become imbued with Super Powers in Tibet, it's worth a look. I saw it once in the mid eighties at 3 in the morning, I'd like to see it again.
