Toy-Ventures: Know your AHI Frankenstein Variants!

Toy-Ventures: Know your AHI Frankenstein Variants!

Know your AHI Frankenstein Variants!

AHI Frankenstein variants

In issue 1 of Toy-Ventures Magazine (limited supply available), we sought to catalogue the many variants of the Azrak-Hamway World’s Greatest Super Monsters action figures.

As a bonus, in speaking with former AHI/Remco employees, we discovered the origin of these many variants. It seems that AHI did not own its factory in Hong Kong ( not uncommon even today). Each purchase order would be made out to a company called SOMA (still in business today) and not AHI itself.

SOMA would then assign a factory to the production run, and the many differences in materials and styles were a result. After the Universal Monsters license had expired and AHI had stopped offering the World’s Greatest Super Monsters, one factory continued to produce them until the early 1980s, creating a series of bootleg variations as well.

From Left to Right:
Painted Hands Frankenstein, Flat Palms Frankenstein, Jointed Wrist Frankenstein and Flesh Body Frankenstein (which is an unlicensed knock-off).

These are just some of the variations of the AHI Frankenstein figure in Issue 1. Copies are still available at our store or Amazon (link in bio) or below:
